    Hey all,
Been a while since posting in the 3rd gen forum.

I was so bummed out when my 2023 trd off road manual transmission was totalled by an idiot. 1 year old and 13k miles. Obviously, the truck gave me zero problems, except window seals and window rattle. I hope you all are enjoying your 3rdeez.

I was hesitant, but I went for a 2024 tacoma trd off road, manual transmission. This truck in my.opinion is better in every way when compared to my 2023. The power, the ride, interior such as dash and overall looks, seats, mpg. Literally everything is just better and toyota did great with the new tacoma. The only thing I can't speak for is longevity.

I find myself saying I love this truck all the time. I never said that about my 2023, it was just that I liked the truck.

What I do miss from my 2023 is the power sliding rear window and power seats. No way I was paying close to 5k more in options to get them in the new truck. The 24 has heated seats, butt and back, and other small stuff 23 didn't, so I guess it's a wash.

One complaint, smaller gas tank. At 18 gallons, the light comes on with around 3 gallons left. I get roughly the same miles per tank 23 vs 24, but retaining the bigger tank and higher mpg with the 24 would have been smart by toyota.

The only options in my 24 are heated seats and the 14 inch touchscreen. Sticker was 45500 where as my 2023 msrp was 40100 I believe. Big price difference, but where hasn't that occurred these days.

I know toyota is going to start unloading the tacomas, discounts are huge already. If anyone was considering a 2024, I'd say go for it.

    Happy holidays

I got a sticker and some cool valve stem caps...
Had a 24 TRD OR as a rental at work. I hated it compared to my 23 TRD OR. It rode better, got better mileage and had more immediate power... but my 23 was above and beyond better in build quality and feeling like a truck. The 24 felt more cockpit like...more car.

    YMMV, everyone values different things.

Also, heated seats for the win if u possess an old man back!!!

Well I am 50 now, so the heated seats are nice. I never said a win, just saying i lost some stuff and gained some options.

I dont get a car like feeling with the 6 speed manual at all. The gear ratio reminds me daily it's not a car. I'm very happy with this new design if the 4cy turbo lasts.

This is totally a great time to buy, I'm seeing discounts on everything lately.... But if you're looking for a manual specifically there are very few of those left. Of the ~20,000 available 2024 Tacomas, only 143 are 6-speed manual!

I had a choice buy a 2023 or wait for the 2024 I chose the 2023 main reason was the V6 and because the same package in the 2024 was overpriced IMO. I really don’t understand why anyone would pay more for less truck.

I know this is the 3G forum, but why do you feel it’s less truck?

Im not really wanting to get into a debate you will have to do your own research and come to your own conclusion.

As @Delta09 said two less cylinders LMAO.

The package combinations I agree are pretty stupid. I had to get the almost $4k upgrade package for a rear slider. It does come with some nice stuff, but c'mon Toyota.

The 4 cylinder thing is a non-issue IMO, but I'm not going to get in a long drawn out debate considering this is a 3rd gen sub-topic. I don't feel like looking at a bunch of bickering comments about it

I bought a 23 before they were gone because I wanted an old school less tech less issue vehicle. Same reason my parents snagged a 24 4 runner this summer. No one in my family is fond of extra fluff.

Lots of guys want the most fancy shiny new toy and that's cool, nothing any of us does effects anyone else:thumbsup:

I owned a 3rd gen and test drove the 4G. I understand they moved content to certain packages but they also gave the truck more equipment in other areas it lacked.
I get the price point, for the money the 4G is way overpriced which is how I ended up with my current truck. the engine debate is a non-starter. The 3G powertrain is the #1 reason I got rid of mine. It sucks plain and simple.

was $5k more than the 24.

I would love to see an a/i summary of this thread :)

V6s are an affront to the gods of engineering and only exhist due to packaging consideration in FWD platforms. Trucks should only come with straight sixes or V8s.

Therefore, every truck on sale today is less truck than the 2003 Dodge Dakota.

I'd be in heaven if I could have a reliable 4.0-4.2L straight 6 with modern DOHC design, VVT, etc. Paired with an MT of course.

I looked at a 2024 TRDOR. I liked almost everything about it. I didn't think the $47k price tag without some of the stuff I have in my 2022 TRDOR was so great. Had to jump to $51k if I wanted the package that had the inverter. I actually use the inverter regularly in mine. Not sold on the turbo either. The 3rd gen while lacking in many aspects is turning out to be a reliable and durable truck as the years go by.

    Genuinely curious. How so?

I use my truck to tow a 6x12x7 enclosed trailer for my home maintenance business, go off-road/fishing, roadtrips, etc etc. Zero issues with the powertrain. Also, my tuck is lifted, running 33s and carry 350-550# of constant weight depending on the season. I have loaded my tuck heavy hundreds of times and again, zero issues with the powertrain. Im really curious what are some of your guys driving style if 278 HP and 265 torque is not "adequate" to get around? Really dont get it, my tach barely goes over 2.5K RPMs unless im towing and going up hills.

The amount of effort the truck needs to pull small loads is subpar. Does it do it? Yes. Does it do it well? No way.
I have a 12’ utility trailer I’ll fill with firewood, maybe 3,000 lbs with trailer. Small hills I had to downshift into 2nd or 3rd just to make sure I don’t crest the hill at 20 mph.
Then people say, “you need to wring it out to use the HP” which to me is like riding a 2 stroke motorcycle back in the 90’s, getting to that powerband.
I guess I just prefer the low end torque, where the engine doesn’t even seem like it’s working that much. Also fuel mileage doesn’t even suffer.

Granted my truck is quite a bit different than the Tacoma TRD OR I had, I can haul my single jet ski in my RR and get 20 mpg where in the Tacoma it would drop to 14mpg with the same trailer. Luckily I had a MT so no gear hunting issues like the auto which people complain quite a bit here.
I agree the Tacoma is a good truck, but people talk about it like nothing comes close, and that’s not true.
