    Hey folks,
I never owned a 4WD truck before, just picked this one up brand new back in June, custom order because I wanted a manual in Blue Crush, anyway, I notice a whine in the rear end when coming to a stop in 2nd gear/and 1st gear, I wonder if this is a normal thing for the 4WD taco's or if something else is up, Truck only has 1400 miles on it, also, I hear a whistling noise around 35-40MPH, and sometimes what seems to be a heat shield rattle. Is this normal? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

The whine in the rear end is usually a howl type sound at around 55-60 mph. Haven’t heard of it being in 1st or 2nd only, you’re probably hearing the transmission in that case. If you’re downshifting into 1st gear, that will definitely make some noise.

35-40 mph whistle is probably the air conditioning. Especially if you’re up around 2500-3000 rpm. When the Freon hits the expansion valve, it makes a whistle. I hear that all the time in my truck. If yours is something else then I’m not sure, would need to hear it.

can’t speak to the heat shield rattle, never heard anything like that on mine.

It is under warranty. Take it to the dealership and ask questions. Nothing to lose other than a few hours of your time at this point.
