That’s not the plug for the controller. The plug for the brake controller is by the kick panel on the driver’s side. You have to do a little digging to find it but it’s there somewhere.

Ha! Nice….so that plug I had is what? Maybe to plug a diagnostic computer into? It was in a little metal bracket on the lower left side just under the lower plastic trim…thanks

Yes, pretty sure it’s for the diagnostics computer. Glad you found the pigtail for the beak controller

So @Beaver77, were you able to find the plug under the dash that the brake controller pigtail plugs into? I'm in a similar boat to you in that I brought my brake controller from my 2011 Tacoma to my 2023 and ordered the 3031P pigtail, but I haven't yet installed it. I remember the connector I needed in the 2011 was a lot higher up under the dash that I expected...I really had to dig for it. Wondering if the 2023 is the similar.

@Beaver77 The connector you want is behind the kick plate on the driver side. There is a YouTube video by redarc electronics that shows how to take the kick plate off and where the connector is located.

Thanks for sharing that video! And for introducing me to the Tow-Pro...very clean install and now I'm wondering if I want to maybe sell the Tekonsha to swap to the Tow-Pro...

I installed the red-arc on my Tacoma around 8mo ago. It working perfectly and the only sign of it being there is the little dial in one of the blank spots in PXL_20221004_151603966.jpg my lower dash.

The tow pro works great and looks stock when you use the little plastic switch knockout piece.

I can also recommend the TowPro. Install was super easy and it's worked perfectly. I liked that I could just use a button blank for the control knob too. You barely know it's there.

So much better than the little bracket with the Tekonsha that I will need to find a place to mount. On my 2011, I simply attached it to the dash near the driver's knee...and then would routinely, somehow, kick it while exiting the truck. Decisions, decisions...

With the truck hooked up to the camper the redarc has a little blue light that lights up at the top of the dial showing you that everything's hooked up right. When you apply the brakes it lights up red to show you that the trailer brakes are being applied. It's far and away the best trailer brake I've ever used.

Check out the second picture in this post (and below). For perspective, the camera is all the way down where the brake pedal is looking left at the driver's side kick panel. Check out the arrow for the Factory Towing Harness that you will plug into. I have a different controller than you so ignore the rest of the callouts in the pic... we both plug into the same TRD harness and chassis ground though.

I have the Redarc Liberty never really used anything else so nothing to compare to. But I love that you can mount it in any orientation and that it is hidden except for the dial.

Yup The 2023 Tacoma manual says that white connector is for the computer and for the brake controller. Not happy about the incorrect manual. I'm seeing the Tow pro is the way to go. I had installed a brake controller on my 2013 Tacoma and yes it was a pain, it looks like form the posts that it is the same installaion. ( I had used a Tekonsha)

I was in the same situation when I got my truck 3 years ago. I had a Tekonsha Primus IQ in my jeep Liberty CRD I was going to move over before I sold it. I could really find a spot I liked to mount it. Then I seen the Redarc tow pro Liberty here. I just bought that and let the Tekonsha go with the Jeep. Very happy with how it looks and works.
