Purchased a '23 TT, SR5, last April. Trying to start vehicle using the key FOB (see pic). Dealership where I purchased the TT tried, blew me off saying they'll get back to me. Still waiting. Contacted Toyota HQ, they referred me to dealership. Went to another, they said the FOB is supposed to have another button. Went up and down Google and YouTube, and got mixed reviews. Tried different methods using the Lock button, no success. Looking for input. Thanks.

My fob looks the same and has remote start. It’s the 3 click lock method and you hold on the third one. It’s kinda picky on the timing of the clicks. U can also run your vin on the Toyota website to make sure yours has remote start. Another option is to use the Toyota phone app to see if you can remote start through there.

Hit the lock button twice, then hold it a third time for about 5 seconds.

Same question as Tacospike and comment as Martian_. It works on my 23 OR. Maybe it's a TRD and higher level trim thing or you need to activate thing. Play with the app and see if the other features works. I still think its BS this is only a trial period. I won't pay an extra charge after the trial period is up on principle alone. The remote start from the remote should work for "free" for the $40k+ cost of admission. Unrelated, I'm going to Toyota today for my 1st "free" Toyota care service. I can only imagine how this is going to go. I have to sit around and wait. Maybe they'll have a Supra on the lot I'll generate a fake interest in to see if a test drive would swing my vote.

Yes, I believe it’s only a higher trim level option. That’s why I emphasized that the OP check to see if he even has the remote start option. On another note, the remote start will continue to work after the connect trial period, but only with the remote. If you want all of the features the app offers, you’ll need the subscription.

OH!!! I love hearing the remote start will still work from the fob after the trial period. I'm not overly impressed with the app anyway.

Here are depictions of remote starting with the vehicle key fob and remote starting with the vehicle accessory fob.

Stoked that i found this site. Never knew, and was never told about the trick starting the vehicle with the lock feature. Just activated starting from my phone. Figured navigation would come with the purchase price...nope! But after downloading Android Auto on my phone and plugging into the USB port on truck, bam, navigation and other features. Thought i'd have to have the DCM installed and pay monthly. Like a previous post said... you'd figure these options would be included for a 40k+ investment.

Yeah amazing what they hide behind a pay wall these days. Navigation is free in pre-2020 models though. The trade-off being no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay though.

As others have mentioned, it's a 3-click method for the remote start. No need to hold it on the 3rd press though. Just 3 presses approximately 1 second apart each.

Incorrect, 2020+ trucks require you to hold the lock button on the 3rd press.
Navigation is not locked behind a paywall on 2020+, you just need the tech package, same as 2016-2019.

OP, Click lock twice, hold on third time, this is standard across all 2020+ Tacoma's in North America, regardless of subscription status for any services, it is hard encoded to the truck. You have to hold on the third time for 5-10 seconds, until you see your hazards flashing. It is pretty short range, will only work within the distance you can reliably lock and unlock your truck.

Key fob remote start is standard on any 2020+ Tacoma's with push button start.

I guess since I have a 2017, I wouldn't have known that the procedure changed. I just need to press it 3x.

I believe I have the technology package on my Tacoma (no JBL though) and I have free navigation. Our 2019 4Runner is as base model as you can get and also has the same navigation for free.

Meanwhile I've driven several new Toyotas (2022+) as rentals and loaners and they all wanted me to set up my account before I can use navigation. Some had the technology package and some didn't. Maybe I misunderstood this to mean you needed a subscription. But based on what others have said about the subscription services, I am understandably skeptical.

Yeah, this is Toyota's fault. They made it confusing as FUCK. So, non Nav trucks still have the map button, but the only capability they have is that they have is that through your Toyota account, you can use the Entune navigation APP, and have it linked to your truck to show the turn by turn directions on your head unit but no physical map. It is borderline useless. That head unit looks like this. It can only do nav outside of android auto/apple carplay by using toyotas "scout" app on your phone whilest paired with your truck, which is absolutely moronic, because once you're paired, why not just use AA/Carplay.
Then, trucks with the built in nav look like this. This is the traditional integrated nav you're used to. No sub needed, same as your 2017 just reskinned. No phone required.
So stupid and convoluted. The only reason I know this is because I sold them for a very brief period.

By the sounds of it, your 17 has dealer/port installed remote start- it was a very common port installed option on them, and is much better than the integrated ones on the 2020+, ironically enough.

You don't need tech for nav on a 19. I have a base 19 OR and have it.

I believe that OR package in those years supersedes the need for a tech package to get integrated nav… I think. Toyotas packaging is genuinely moronic. Point stands, you don’t need a subscription for nav on a new Tacoma if your truck has the feature.

I got ya. Maybe it's different for the 4Runner, idk. That's as base as you can get and it still has full navigation with a map.

Yeah, my remote start is actually by N2 Designs, but my understanding is it works the same as the factory equipment. But, again, it's pre-2020.

So yeah, N2 does work the same as factory equipment, but with some connivence things like just triple click to start vs double click and some random amount of time to hold. Yes, 4Runners are different, they have nav on all trims post 2018 (I think, not my expertise, but I do know they’re different).

Regardless it’s a huge pain in the ass to keep track of so I can’t blame anyone for being confused.
