    Hi,

Seeking others opinion as I am new to the Tacoma world and appreciate the advice of those with experience. Cheers!

Currently living in TX and will be moving home to MN May/June 2024. With this, I am in the market for a smaller, reliable truck prior to the winter. This has me looking at the Tacoma as a nice do-all truck. Things I am currently looking for in a truck is 4x4, nice interior, some bells and whistles, and decent towing capacity. I go camping, fishing, and hunting in MN and Canada throughout the year (boat, ice house, trailer, etc). Went in person to look at all the trims and liked the capability of the OR and the interior of the Limited (heated seats and stuff a must in MN), decided the Pro would be the best of both worlds plus I love the exterior. Sadly, they are no longer on taking allocations for the 2023s and said I could hop on the 2024 waitlist but I am hesitant with guinea pigging the new-gen and would be required to wait till about 2025.

Should I try to snag a nice new/used 2023 or wait on the 2024? Are my concerns valid with the 2024?

EDIT/UPDATE: Appreciate everyone's advice. I have decided to put a refundable deposit down to be put on the 2024 waitlist and will keep an eye out in the meantime for a nice new/used 3rd gen Pro trim or OR trim with a full package (6ft bed, leather interior, off-road specs, etc.). We shall see how it plays out!

many speculating the same thing, but since no one has a 24,, it's just that,, speculation. No one knows for sure, and everyone should decide their risk v reward on their own,,, or wait.

I would just buy the the off-road almost the same set up as pro minus the suspension and front grill and leather interior . More than likely u will upgrade the suspension to a better one .

I’d take a 23 for a test drive, see what you think. I’d also test drive all the other midsize trucks just to be able to compare.
The 24 Tacoma does sound good for power, transmission and it’s a Toyota with a warranty so really how bad can it be?

Personally I think I’d try to get a brand new 2023 as the 2024 gets a little close. Reliable and should be able to get a good deal on one as the new inventory rolls in

2024 runs the yet-untested (mass product, at least) turbo-4 instead of the V6. Some also dislike the 20-inch TV in the cabin that replaced the information screen (that is my opinion ... full disclosure) and the new cabin options (specifically the change in the "access cab").

Engine reliability may or may not be a problem in the first version of the next gen but no one can say until they run "in the wild" for a while. As to the other aesthetics, opinions are like ... well ... and everyone has his/hers.

Let "first models of new gen" or "aesthetics" or "availability of 2024 or 2023" be your guide, as you prefer.

I *JUST* purchased a fully loaded 2023 TRD OR because I don't want or trust the 2024. I just picked it up on Saturday...

I had the same 2.4 liter turbo engine in my 2022 lexus nx350. The Car Care Nut on YouTube has a good video on it.It is a good engine without issues ..

Between those two options for me it would be 3rd gen since they didnt carry over the manual to the pro/trailhunter higher trims and hybrid powertrains.

MSRP. I got the OR access cab, a couple packages (at MSRP), then got all parts from the parts dept at 10% over cost. Considering how long it took and all the hoops I had to jump through I'm pretty happy. The dealer treated me well. Nobody in my home state would get my truck so I had to go 2 states over to get it.

Do you have an extra 20-30% over a used 23? 24s will likely be around 60, and current pros are around 40-45k (used)

The interior of the 2024 is truly hideous. Oddly placed grab handles, a stupid looking oversized tv screen and boing-boing seats, WTF???

The reason the 2023 was a must over the 2024 (for me):

    1. 4 banger turbos suck.
    2. I wanted an access cab with suicide doors.
    3. They didn't make an extended cab with 4x4.
    4. New generations of vehicles are typically problematic (see latest Tundra)
    5. 4 banger turbos suck.

4th Gen forum will be overloaded with "head unit replacement" threads ...

so more torque than the V6 is bad? I'm confused. Oh wait, you're one of those "no replacement for displacement" people.

The “20 inch TV” isn’t really that bad/big…
