I have a CarlinKit 5 and it works with both Android & Apple. So far it's worked pretty good, connection is fairly quick & stable. I have less audio drops outs with it than being connected via USB cable.

Can I use 1 of the USB charging ports in the center gloove box to connect the wireless adaptor? That way it would be out of the way and not seen leaving the USB for whatever else, or does it need to be close to the head unit?

Nope. You will need to use the one close to the head unit. That's the one one set up to use with android auto/carplay. You can relocate that to the glove box if you want.

That must be the problem I have with my MA1. There's a spot on the freeway near my home where Android Auto disconnects, every. single. time.

Yeah that’s it. And when I contacted Motorola to ask if there is a fix, they said there’s none

My CarlinKit 5 has a disconnect issue at the same place in town when I drive down a certain street.

FWIW my Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX does this as well in certain places every time like clockwork. The BT also has the same issue in my other car in the same spot, as does my bosses fully stock Taco when connected to BT on her phone. Just the nature of the beast with wireless connections. It is trouble free the other 99.9% of the time though.

I run one of these too. And love it. For the price, you can't go wrong. I intended on relocating the USB but I still just have it dangling there.

Like you, there's a spot on my drive to work where it disconnects every morning. Exact same spot...like EXACT. The weird thing is, while the current spot of disconnect is always the same, it used to be about 3/4 of a mile further down the road. It just shifted like 6 months ago.

It happened on some cars that came with wireless Android Auto from the factory too. I rented a '22 Durango R/T one time and it disconnected as well.

Even though it was attached under the dash I didn't like seeing the wireless adapter so I ended up hiding it behind the dash. Works perfectly. Although it's for Car Play as mentioned earlier, there are equivalent adapters for Android Auto. I keep my phone in my pocket and it connects every time I get in. More here:

That's not a bad idea. However, I'd either find something to put in it's place on the dash (maybe a USB port just for charging), or blank it off.
I was hoping you'd discuss how you detached the lower part of the dash holding the port and BSM etc, since I was in there this weekend, had the radio out (as I was adding the amp), and pulled the environmental controls panel. Couldn't figure how the lowest part was detached though.

In another thread, I think you mentioned that a USB splitter might work? I believe I read somewhere that the Head Unit doesn't recognize two USB inputs, and so that's going to be nojoy. YMMV.

I have a 2021 Sport and my Android works fine on any WiFi that is near but not on the main roads. I cannot make calls on WiFi but can download data no problem.

    That's pretty odd. Possibilities:

Maybe on your phone you have selected calls via WiFi, because you have poor cell coverage, and/or you want to save cellular data, and/or you have implemented a threshold on your cell data for each month that cannot be exceeded

My phone does not support WiFi calling so it is useless to me. Yes we have poor cell coverage as I live in a remote area. I have lots of data on my phone which I do not use as I can download all the apps, internet etc on my phone from home with Wifi. I will be changing my plan to less data as I use my phone unlimited text and long distance calls.

I have had the Carsifi wireless adaptor since about March 2022 in my 2020. I have tried changing the wifi channel in the settings app a few times. No matter what channel I choose 2.4 or the 5GHz band there is always some place that I regularly drive that I get Audio drop outs from interference. Its not that often but predictable on my daily commute. Otherwise its good. the Carsifi has a button that lets you flip between 2 android phones. It does not however support iPhones Which sucks because my Partner has a 13 pro Max and can't use carplay without unplugging the adaptor and changing settings in the head unit, but bluetooth works for music without changing all my settings.

Would the Carlink 5 let us connect either Phone without going in to the head units menus and switching carplay/android auto on or off?

edit: This answers my question: https://********************/blogs/...switch-from-connected-carplay-to-android-auto

for me a new head unit was the right answer. YMMV.

*but i bought the SR with the understanding that i didnt want to pay money for a factory upgraded sound system that i would never be happy with.
