First, so far you guys have all been awesome and very helpful. Unfortunately, when I’ve been searching for the information I’m looking for on this post, I honestly just get confused because there are so many slight differences in models and of course many users have certain customizations.

I was wondering what the largest tire I could fit without rubbing would be on stock 2022 trail edition with stock wheels and no additional lift, springs, or other modifications?

Additionally, if I was willing to remove mudflaps, would I be able to fit larger?

Wanting to get a little more height out of the stock set up, wouldn’t mind some additional width on the tire too.

    Appreciate the help.

Someone may have more specific experience with the trail edition but in general for most trim levels 265/75R16 is the biggest 16 inch size you can run on the stock suspensions with no rubbing issues . That's what I have on my SR5 4x4. The Trail Edition I believe is based on the SR5 trim with some things added that are unique or from the TRD OR.

Thanks. My understanding is the trail has a mild lift compared to the stock SR5 4x4.

You might be correct. I know the wheel are different in that bronze color im a bit jealous of. The off road comes with 265/70R16 so 265/75R16 is slightly taller. I'd wait for more responses i"m sure someone here has tried bigger and can speak to their success.

The trail edition does have a bit of a lift from factory, but it’s my understanding lifts don’t help you clear tires.

255/85R16 or 255/80R17 (pretty sure?) are 33” tires and it seems to depend on an individual truck whether it will rub or not. I put 255/85R16 on mine and they do rub the UCAs on full lock but I have not gotten an alignment yet (oops)… Consensus seems to be that your mudflaps will need to go to fit this size.

Many pages to read through here:

is the Lift a spacer lift? If so, lose it and get yourself an awesome 2" Bilstein 5100 lift and 33" pizza cutters. All your problems will be solved and you will not be required to remove your mud flaps, which will save your paint in the long run.

    Best bang for your buck.

Thanks for the information. I know nothing about any of this. Coming from a Ranger Tremor where everything was just already in place.

Not sure at all if it’s a spacer lift or not.

Could you define 33” pizza cutters? Lol

Basically the 255/85R16s or 255/80R17s I talked about. The tire is 33” in diameter, and they’re called pizza cutters because they’re tall and narrow, like a pizza cutter.

Modifying suspension shouldn’t be needed, as can be seen by the link I posted above

Trails sit higher factory, its not a spacer lift, you have a decent truck.

Pizza cutters are 255 wide or 235 wide tires, better for offroading but subjectively not as attractive.

Most 3rd gens run 265/75R16 or 275/70R17 with no issues. It's the easiest answer. Both are bigger and beefier without rubbing or issues.

Agreed, OP, this is probably the answer you’re looking for. The 255 pizza cutters are going to be bigger but there seem to be much more people running into rubbing than these sizes.

Also, just since you said you know nothing about this stuff, the 16 or 17 at the end is the diameter of your wheels in inches.

Thanks. I do at least know what the tire measurements mean. What I know nothing about at all is lifts/suspension. I just know this truck is not quite as tall as I’d like it to be so I’m looking at options.
Appreciate all the help. I may start with just the larger tires and then maybe next round go with a lift.

You have the stock bronze Trail Ed. wheels? If so they are +10mm offset like the Pro wheels. Largest tire that fits without rubbing in all situations is just the stock size, 265/70-16. If you remove mudflaps or upgrade to high-clearance flaps from the likes of RokBlokz XL, 265/75-16 will fit without rubbing in all situations.

the trail already has a 1 inch lift so you should only go 1 more inch if its worth it and getting 265/75/16 is an inch taller

+100 for this. just made a lift on bilstein 5100, if you want you can also install aftermarket coils and AAL +1.5" and you will be easily fit 255/85/16

OP, you are right in that there is a lot of different information posted on here. Even in this thread there is some bad info. Haha.

You have a 1.1 inch lift in the front that is a result of a different coil spring used on the TE. In the rear you have a .5 inch block.

Your wheels are 16x7 inches and have a +4 offset.

Soooooo, you can run a 265/75/16 or a 255/85/16 tire to add some height to your ride without rubbing.

You have a really cool truck. Enjoy it!

To my understanding that’s exactly what the trail edition offers it’s a 2” trd lift. You can order it straight from Toyota. The front is a standard 5100 set on clip 3 (typically) with factory springs. The rear is a 5100 and a 1 inch rear block which would ideally be swapped.

If you want more lift then as others said don't buy a kit that has spacers to lift at the front struts. Don't buy anything Rough Country either unless you like your teeth rattled out of your skull. As they said do a suspension lift. it will cost more but you'll be happier. Look for something like Old Man Emu, Dobsons, Billstien, or Eibach. Also don't try to lift it 3-6 inches either. Keep the lift in the 2 inch range. If you lift higher than that things are put at angles where they will wear out faster. That is what I plan to do if I ever lift mine. I lifted my Jeep Liberty CRD with an Old Man Emu kit that included new springs, struts and shocks and Jeepin by Al A arms. I could've got a spacer lift on that too to be other Liberties I rode in with those rode like trash. The little Jeep actually rode better than stock with that lift and it still rode that way over 8 years later when I sold it. I know it's not the same vehicle we're dealing with here but the point is you get what you pay for, do it once, cry once over the cost then be happy.
