    Hello all,

New to the forum here!! I’m getting ready to trade in my Jeep Wrangler on a 2022 Tacoma TRD Off-Road and was wondering if anyone had any insight on the packages offered (which one would be a good choice/waste of money)? Also does anyone know if the Premium Audio and Navigation package they are offering in the 22’s is worth it or should I save the money and put it towards accessories? Mainly trying to determine if I need to order the truck with the premium audio and navigation package. Hoping to decide by today and order the truck this afternoon! Thanks!!

I wouldn't expect many responses as there are not many '22s on the road yet. You'd have to judge it by the '21s and I wouldn't know if it's the same package.

Thank you for the information! If you have any insight on the premium audio and navigation package on the 21’s would you mind sharing?

Is it just me, or is it off-putting that OP lists his vehicle as "2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road", even though he hasn't even purchased it yet? Poor form...

If that's how we do things, I might as well change mine to "2028 Tacoma TRD Pro". Cause I totally plan on getting one....

It looks like it will be the same as the 2021's. Premium Audio is NOT the JBL Audio package. Premium Audio has an 8" rather than 7" screen and includes Navigation. The speaker setup is the same as the base audio package (no sub, no external amp). If you are a hardcore audio person, you want the base or Premium Audio package because they are easier to upgrade than the JBL.

You'd be asking the wrong person. I'm content with the crappy AM reception for most of my time in the truck, along with occasionally listening to FM. Nowhere near being an audiophile.

Not sure what the premium audio and navigation package is. have a 21’ pro and the sub in my 11’ Trd Sport hits harder than whatever they are putting in the 21’ pro.

It is nothing special but a real PIA if you try and go aftermarket. Pony up and get the highest level of infotainment system they offer for 22’.

Nav is decent but gets lost often or picks bad routes compared to apple/google.

And I thought this forum was for helping people who are in need of information concerning Toyota Tacoma’s? Not for bashing someone’s post! Sorry I’m a new member and didn’t realize you must OWN the vehicle to use it for the “Vehicle:” section. Didn’t mean to offend you TacoMamba35 for having high hopes on getting a 22 Tacoma.

If you thought you would only encounter helpful and technical advice on this forum, you have soooo much to learn! I also hope you get much thicker skin very quickly. Perhaps I'm just trying to help you in another way...

Man with balls that big you must need a wheelbarrow to carry them around… Actually your 1/4 ton Tacoma might not even be big enough to haul those around, might want to switch over to the 1/2 ton Tundra!

    Thanks Dr. Phil…

Does anyone know if there is going to be a monthly charge for having navigation work on the 2022s? I am determined not to get navigation that I pay for forever. Now all I need to do is convince the wife she can get navigation elsewhere.

Dont worry about TacoJerk35. I have a deposit on my truck scheduled to be delivered in November and I put in my profile just to be in solidarity with you. I went for the premium audio since the base system was so underwhelming. From what ive heard, the upgrade a pretty good system but not the best that you can get. Some complain that it doesn’t get as loud as they would like. I don’t really care about that though because Im not looking to throw a block party out of my Taco.

Save the money on aftermarket toys.

I have a 2020 with Nav and JBL premium audio. The navigation takes me the most ridiculous routes and sometimes I use it just for fun on trips that I know the way just to see what direction it takes me. There's definitely no point with the addition of android auto and carplay. The premium sound is OK if you have the windows up but can be barely heard at max volume with the windows down.

The choice of JBL vs the regular "Premium Audio" is more of a choice between cloth vs heated leather and no sunroof vs sunroof. If you want seat heat, leather, and/or a sunroof, then you get the JBL. The premium audio is easier to upgrade than the JBL. You will get a wide range of feedback on here about whether any of the systems are good or not. The best way to judge is to listen to it at the dealer(if they have any on the lot) and choose for yourself. I have the JBL, but only because I wanted the sunroof and leather, and it is fine. I have no desire to dig into the system to upgrade it. Android Auto/Carplay is all I really use to listen to music on Spotify and Google Maps for navigation.

Basically how I feel. Its kind of a all or nothing package. If you like everything in the package, to me its worth it. If you only care about the upgraded audio system, then your money is better spent elsewhere.

The OP did not specify if he was getting an automatic or manual transmission. As someone else has said in this thread, the MT does not come with JBL. So if you are getting the premium package (leather, sunroof, heated seats) in an MT, you do not have to contend with JBL and upgrading will be easier. I believe both head units are the same, premium audio MT vs. premium audio JBL AT.

I just took home a 2022 Limited with JBL on 7/7/2022 and my overall review is that it is underwhelming. I wouldn’t say it sucks for a general listener, but if you have ever done custom car audio you will hate it. The sound is clear enough, but the biggest disappointment is the subwoofer. It is an 8” which isn’t much, but I have seen single 8” subs in a proper box with a proper amplifier be reasonably impressive for a small cab like this. Maybe not so if you are a giga-bass person. In other words it could have easily been way better than it is with a proper speaker and pushing some wattage to it. Also, from what I see so far there isn’t any way to tweak the power or crossover which would maybe allow it to be improved some. You can adjust the general treble/mid/bass sliders, but even with the bass slider maxed out it doesn’t do much. I actually slid the seat forward when I first got it because I thought maybe they forgot to connect it at the factory. It is connected, operating, and just simply not doing much.
