    Hi all,

Is there any product out there for recalibrating the speedometer on a 2022 Tacoma after going up in wheel size? I know the Rough Country and Hypertech are popular options, but they're listed as only working for 2021 and earlier.

    Thanks!

There’s no difference between a ‘21 and ‘22 in that respect, so Im confident their website wasn’t updated to include 2022’s . But before dropping cash you can always confirm with the manufacturer.

I had tons of similar “incompatible” listings on vendor websites a year ago with my new ‘21 because things weren’t updated from the 2020 model year. Since there were also no changes from that year , I had no issues with anything not working properly .

I am running the Rough Country. Cheaper and the exact same product as the Hypertech. You can even use the same program to set up the calibration.

Install tip: leave the USB cord hooked up to the unit and run it down & tuck behind carpet so you can adjust it anytime you want :hattip:

You mention wheel size. Wheels don't make a difference. Tire size does. What are you running for tire size. One size up, no need. Your tacome speedo will be more correct., than with factory standard.

Nope. Thought I was smart and did that. The unit will not connect even if the vehicle side is plugged in with the key off. There must be COM traffic polling the unit, I had to rethink my install.

I now have the unit tucked under the dash so I can reach up and unplug it to recalibrate it without disassembling the dash again.

Yes, you may be within a percentage of accuracy but not for long. The factory calibration has an error factor that accounts for tire wear. Inother words it will be off with new tires, and improve accuracy as the tire wears unit it swings the opposite way into inaccuracy. This percentage of error effectively cancels out the error over the life of the tire. A +or- 2% of error is normal.

When you step up even a single size you are now out enough that you are never compensating for the tire wear. It is still close but I felt it was worth it to have an accurate speedometer and mileage. I also have the future proof if I ever decide to get larger diameter tires down the road.

    Edit: couple autocorrect errors...

CF2409C7-28C3-4C6B-9F61-0E9ECEB5F95E.jpg For me at least. I’ve adjusted mine a few times just by plugging in my dancing USB cord. Cord has been plugged into box for years.

Very odd. When it was plugged into the truck, key off. It would not communicate with the module, as soon as I unplugged it, it communicated fine.

    all tore up already
It's like a 5% change, at 70 you will be doing 73.9. Idk if that's worth it, my last set of tires was +12% and just be mindful your display is a bit lower than actual and enjoy the "free" miles on the odometer. I have 50k on bigger tires so over the long run I "saved" 6000 miles hahaha

I can confirm that is does alter your MPG readings and ODO. It’s worth it to me.

Worth it to leave it alone or worth it to have it recalibrated?

Did you do it yourself or have someone/a shop do it for you? I just upgraded to 295/70r17 and my odometer is off by 0-6mph depending on speed so I'm looking for options.

Welcome to the forum :hattip: Congratulations on the new truck!

You can plug your tire sizes into this calculator to compare them: BTW: No matter what the display indicates your real world fuel economy is going to drop -- but nobody buys a Tacoma for thrifty purposes anyway.
