I have a 2021 Sport and LOVE the seats compared to the Rubicon I traded in. That damn Jeep was sooo uncomfortable! Granted the seats were more upright than the Tacoma but it just felt like they were made out of concrete. Only have a 20min ride to work and was about ready to leap out of Jeep and walk the last mile.
The SR access cab I drove was to see if I liked the feel of the Tacoma. All felt the same in the seat department, except my Sport has the electric seat (driver only). Truthfully I haven't moved it since I found the position I like so don't make that your deal breaker.
I got the Sport because I wanted the access cab and manual transmission. Haven't owned an automatic since the late 90s and have no intention of going down that road again if I can avoid it.
Good luck on your purchase and pick what makes the most sense for your life. For me a sheet of plywood cut in four pieces was the only way my Jeep was staying

Thanks for the help. Just put $500 down on a 2022 Tacoma at Longo Toyota.
    To start the process...
Said to be about 3 months, and will pay actual MSRP.
Same basic formula as the last (2) new Toyota trucks (85 4x4 and 95 T100) . No real added options to speak of.
V6 auto, SR5, access cab, white with grey int. And thats it.
That build is $31,335 in 2021. Will see what 2022 brings...

Am surprised how many nice options is come standard on new Toyota trucks.
Not exactly sure what the 2022 SR5's will come with?
As part of the standard SR5 package, but am sure it will be very similar to the 2021's
As long as it does not have the technology package, I am good.
No interest in blind spot monitors', or parking sonar.

Will keep you posted.......... On how this plays out.

I would personally go with at least a TRD sport from what you are saying from your test drive with it.. and upgrade from there if you really wanted. I’ve always tightened up my suspension for a “stiff” ride, but honestly, my cars ride good to me, being slammed or tucking a tire.

i’ve been modding my import cars for over 15 years and i’ve gone away with doing that stuff myself.. getting old i guess… but that is why i am actually settling with a 2022 trd pro when the time comes. It already has the decent lift and upper control arms, fancy lights, black chrome tails, etc… its worth it to me now because i don’t really have to mess with it at all! Plus, WARRANTY. I’m sure i don’t need the warranty because i am mechanically inclined, but still. I don’t have to mess with or worry about it foe a couple years… the mod bug is hitting and i don't even have the truck, yet. Hahaha. If you are worried about price, i would find someone who works on toyota to buy the OEM upgrades of a pro with an SR5 model, which will be cheaper (even without discount), but like i said, warranty. Don’t gotta mess with it and only enjoy it.

as someone mentioned, nobody can really answer this question besides you and your use case. I mod for looks and function. If you are a huge modder and want to change little things to custom components, start with an sr5 and build from there. If you don’t want to touch anything. Go with a trd pro haha.

20200507_125015.jpg Well, not many mod's on my daily truck. Have set up many cars to go around corners over the past 40 years though.
I quickly put front and rear sway bars on my 95 T100 and on my 2nd set of Bilstein's. I have driven it for 27 years now and am ready.
But you are right. If I am not happy after break in with the SR5 susp, will simply add shocks, sway bars and springs/if needed.
Not a big deal. Would have got a sport. But the fake hood scoop was too much. Just me.
Another thing was the T100's seem to be selling in the 10k range with under 200k. So now is the time.

Idk about the 2022 sr5, but my 2020 hangs in corners pretty flat for a mid size truck....way better than my old 2001 tundra ever did. I'm with you on the fake hood scoops on these trucks, but some think their the greatest since sliced bread.

Excellent - I have the same build - and you got a good deal on it - my 2021 base-price was $33,400 but that Longo is one
of the biggest dealers in the country.

The 2021 SR5 has a bigger screen ( 8" )... power seat ( drivers seat )... better wheels.. tow package not sure if that is on the SR or not,
4 pin and 7 pin connector... couple of USB Ports... dynamic cruise control, lane departure alert, pedestrian detection. Not sure if the
2022 will add anything or not.

You're gonna look good in that thing LOL ... break it in gently. I got about 2,700 miles on mine and noticed a bit of
better response. I love driving it.

I vote SR - with a few upgrades that nearly everyone does regardless of trim level, you get pretty much the same truck for less money. Here's my SR.

I believe the sr5 comes with a power sliding rear window to. Not familiar with what all these trucks have standard but my sr5 came with the power rear window, a dimming rear view mirror, and led lit compass built in, plus heated side mirrors. Its got a bunch of other electronic crap i turned off.

Hmm, my 2020 SR5 has everything that you and everyone mentioned (except the power rear window). Maybe it was a dealer-installed option like the bed lights in my truck?

Could be for the access cab. Its one of the things i requested when ordering my truck...plus the dealer assured me the bed lights came in the truck also.

Nice truck, Am sure the tube step added $500-$600. Plan to try it 1st. And add later if needed.
Several options on those. Would have to see a few and decide. On the other hand, it might come with one.
Thats the deal, I will have the opportunity as they start to roll off the line. And pick one thats close to my order.
I think Longo is the largest in the world. LOL LOL Bought my 85 4x4 there, and the 95 T100.
So, it's an easy choice. Side note. It's amazing what the SR comes standard with these days.
    Most folks would be surprised.
But the price between an V6 SR/SX ($840.00 SX =same wheels as SR5 and body match paint, over fenders, mirror caps, etc)
Is about the same price as a V6 SR5. Literally within a few dollars. And is much easier to order than a SR/SX with a V6.
Those seem to be a bit rare. But about the same thing really, minus the power seat, leather wheel and 8" screen.

I think I paid like $350 for the steps I have. Reasonable price and they work for me.

I'm curious if thats mostly on their lowest selling vehicles. I wonder if they will cut that kind of numbers on tacoma's. As long as people want to pay a premium to get them, you can bet toyota will limit any shortage.

I "think" l read something in one of the numerous threads about this subject that Tundra and Tacoma would stay normal.

"New" Tundra yes, normal production. No slowdown. Tacoma... No.. Especially access cabs. 40% less Taco's being built in Sep. Seems they want to sell Tundra's and 4 door Tacoma's. And no real interest in xtra cabs. At this time... Could be after the 1st of the year for my order. Nobody seems to know...
