Factory provided tuning has changed over the years. Supposedly the latest version is pretty good.
Anyone have experience with tuning the 2022 or 2023 V6?

-I am noticing mostly slow/laggy pedal response
-Truck upshifts and downshifts at inappropriate times, though not terrible "gear hunting".
-During light but steady acceleration, the truck decides to downshift, slowing down. Have to further depress pedal to resume acceleration, ridiculous.

To me, it would be worth improving those things if I could also improve MPG.

I am only looking for 2022-23 specific information and or experiences.

    Thank You

I have a 2022 V6, OTT tuned it and it's absolutely incredible. I have all the same issues you described (and I agree with what you said fully about the Gear Hunting mostly being just inappropriate shifting, although up steep hills it would start hunting) and OTT completely fixed it and definitely added more HP/Torque. MPG made only a little improvement but efficiency is obviously better given now much more power.

As a note, 4 KDmax tuners within 3ish hours of me (nearest being 35 minutes) while nearest OTT tuner was 6 1/2 hours away. After lots of research I went OTT and have no regrets especially after driving KDmax tuned tacos and comparing them to my OTT tuned taco.

Attached are a couple photos I happened to save of others with the same experience.

KDMAX Pro XT here, been on the KDMAX tunes since the start. I trust their tunes and I'm more than pleased as each one is better than the one before as things are improving with these tunes. I don't know to much about the OTT tune, not saying it bad but I have lots of trust in the Pro tunes from KDMAX.

Your trust is our goal, thank you for being part of the proven KDMAX Pro experience @VaToy! It's been odd seeing new profiles pooping up and folks reposting FB content here. Frankly if someone doesn't have >500 posts on TW and is both reviewing and possibly selling a tune saying how great it is....well....it comes back to trust.

I can’t speak for the KDMax, but I got the OTT tune on my 2022 about a month ago and it was a huge improvement in performance. I personally thought that it was telling that a lot of tuners had been dropped by KDMax because they didn’t want to stay exclusive to KD, mainly because of the OTT popularity. Supposedly the latest iteration of the KDMax tune is better and closer in performance to the OTT, so I think either will be a big step up in performance for you.

When you build a product from the same foundation with the same tools for the same trucks you do in fact get a similar outcome when we are all working to make the tunes better. Begin around for 2+ years with the largest owner-base provides KDMAX Pro resources a great feedback advantage to make improvements where possible and practical....but opinions on how to do that and what to offer to owners varied so now there are multiple offerings in the market for owners.

The latest KDMAX Pro tune (+XT) is a market leader and I am sure the OTT v8 offering is on par. That said, I welcome what's next and am always ready and wiling for the latest and greatest KDMAX Pro tune. With over (300) owners I've worked with directly I can clearly attest to how my truck has never run better and all the owners can trust in what they have and where we'll be able to take them in the future.

Same ECU Ids so far so yes as long as that holds. Certainly not expecting Toyota to fling out a new calibration for what appears to be the last year of this model but ya never know.
