I am looking to buy a 2021. With inventory shortage I don't know when I would get one with spec Cement, V6, 4WD, Long bed. SR5 or TRD OR.
If I order with a dealer it would be somewhere around July-June to be delivered. By then I could wait a few more months for the 2022.

I don't want to kick myself if 2022 model comes out with a better MPG or some kind of cool features.
    What would you do ?

I would go for the 21 more discounts on it than the 22 dealers are not going to budge on a 22 unless you can get the same price otd .

I highly doubt there will be any drivetrain performance differences between 21 and 22.

The cosmetics will be minor. Just get the one without the stupid bed cooler.

There isn't any discount on 2021 if I order or if I get lucky locating one on the lot. MSRP only.

That's the trailer* version. That bed cooler is so so small. I wonder myself too why anyone would want that. It's just unless space.

I don't think it will matter either way unless the color you want is discontinued, and discounts aren't really a thing right now.

For 3rd gen, I feel like there's an argument to be made on 2020+ vs 2016-2019. 2020 introduced a number of really nice updates. But 2020 & 2021 are virtually identical & I have to imagine that will remain the case until the 4th gen. I doubt we'll see 2 mid-cycle refreshes to the level we saw in 2020.

TL DR: go with whats available and best deal wise. 2021 or 2022.

Wait for the supply to catch up with demand whether that be 2021 or 2022, probably 2022. I doubt there will be much change. It seems like the Tacoma is on a 10 year redesign schedule so you should have a couple years more with little changes.

I'm kinda in the same boat. My current lease ends in Dec. and I want to purchase a Tacoma between Sept. and Dec. but not sure about supply at that time or If I'll be getting a '21 or '22. Also a pain that idk if I'll be able to find what I want without ordering one.

Tacoma redesign is scheduled for MY2024. Just incremental upgrades until then.

Imo, its always best to buy the latest version once much of the issues have been worked out. I never would buy a newly redesign truck, unless you like recalls.

    18+ added adaptive cruise
20+ added power seats, stock android/apple auto stuff.

PS - power seats can go die in a fire. I'd prefer the manual seats.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Sure you did. ;)
More likely you gonna get one (or got one) that was in the dealer's allocation and very close to being configured the way you wanted it.
Love to see the sales contract.
