I haven't seen a lot of posts regarding this compartment behind the seat of 2021 Tacoma.
The space is limited, so I wanted to make the most of it
I was looking for ideas and this is the direction that I went

    12.25x17 Molle
    First Aid Bag
    Survival Bag
    Accessories

Still in progress - any other ideas?

Everyone has a different desire/need for their vehicles. Personally, I chuckle at the prevalence of molle panels. I see nothing that the 2 seconds to flip the seat back down will matter with. If you need the weapon (or flare gun?), it won't do you much good if you've got to get out to get it or turn around, untwist two retainers to get to it. But  looks cool!

I use the stock cubby for a box of masks, a med kit, hand sanitizer, and an empty nalgene bottle. I also have the power source for my fridge on that panel.

Although the post was not particularly about the gun, I agree that it is not optimal to have it behind the back seat, but it's more useful than having it at home in the gun cabinet. It may or may not stay there.
For the record, it is not a flare gun - it is a "Byrna Kynetic Projectile Launcher". Non-Lethal but I'm certain it would get my point across in a situation. I chose Orange so that it was not mistaken for a lethal weapon.

Neat! And actually pretty good in a automotive situation where you can easily fire to neutralize the threat then using the truck to retreat. I feel like this is something that can be left in a car and not have to worry as much about it getting stolen. Loaded with pepper balls and blaze orange... might have to order one.

For home defense it seems less helpful where you cant run away with your house to leave the person laying on the ground covered in spicy liquid, or they can come back at a later date with their own gun.

That thing is cool. My wife does not care for guns, but she might consider one of these Byrnas. Doubly so since we also life in California. Have you tested it? Does it work reliably?

Watch this video, it convinced me that its a pretty good weapon. This video is for the HD, but its pretty much the same as the SD.

Also check out the "bundles" at the bottom is the boost kit that gives you a adapter for larger co2 bottles.

My first thought was that it makes your truck a target with all that cool stuff sitting there. Perhaps a cover would be a good idea?

A cover like the back seat being folded up?

He has a double cab, so all that stuff is hidden behind the rear seat backs.

they are actually pretty neat, I kinda wish the access cabs were optioned with the double cab storage bins in the back. So you could either get the storage, a seat, or the flat panel, or even if they made a hybrid type thing, 60% storage bin with a single seat or 40% flat panel. They could of made it so modular back there if they just picked a design and carried it over to all the panels.

In my '17 SR5 I kept my rear headrests behind the rear right seat. Admittedly did not realize my new one had a "sub" and thus half the storage back there so when I went to store headrests and couldn't I was a little annoyed.
