    Hello all,

    Recently got hit, and totaled my 2nd gen. Looking to order a 3rd gen truck, and Toyota just added the 2021 to the website. My question is;

Does is make financial sense to order a 2020 that’s in stock and have it delivered in a week, before my rental runs out?

Or order a 2021 that I was quoted 2-3 months delivery, and figure out a ride in the meantime?

I'd try and get a deal on the 2020 since those are readily available and the 2021 will probably not have any sort of deals available.

I don’t think there is anything significantly different that makes waiting for a 21 worth it. Unless you wanted the pro or trail or nightshade editions or whatever.

Hopefully you're getting a decent pay-off matching the current market. Third gen prices are way up. Not a good time to buy unless you're trading in something with an equally or better inflated market value. In the Carvana thread some guys are selling for equal or more than they paid with 2 years and 40k miles on the clock.

Nothing major on 2020 vs 2021. From what I see on the builder all but base models include LED headlights in the packages. The new SR5 trail edition (fancy coolers). The other oddity is the sliders offered in gulf states, no details on what they are though.

As far as a 2020 vs a 2021, imo, if your going to keep this truck many years your better off buying a 2021.

Not the same LEDs you are thinking, the LED fogs and headlights are still a separate option or bundled into another package, but not standard. What you are seeing is the LED daytime running headlights that are from 2016 on as standard.

And he'll be in a similar situation as trading in, since insurance will cut him a check for the book value which has increased significantly just like one that's not wrecked being traded in, might lose on trade in credit, etc.

I have a 2020 Limited and if I were buying this late in the model year I’d probably wait for the Nightshade edition (equipped like a limited but with black wheels and black accents versus chrome)

2020's have a better finance rate, especially if you can wait till Q4

If its cash then still 2020 it will be far cheaper, especially one in stock.

2021 is only beneficial for re-sale and lower trims get more features now.

If it were me I'd buy a 2020 because I needed a ride in that situation. Unless I had a 2nd beater or commute car I could drive then waiting might be worth it. I think the difference is only a few new trims and options. Oh and dual auto climate control is going to be standard I believe. Really imo not worth waiting for if you can get a 2020 you like.

Out here in SoCal dealerships are getting their 2021's in a few weeks. I put a deposit down for a cement 2021 TRD OR and it should be here early october.

2021 is probably better for resale but your trade depreciation might offset that anyways (that was my excuse). It seems like production caught up a bit, at least in my area. With all the fire tornadoes who knows though...

The one important improvement in the 2021 is the availability of green.

Appreciate it guys, all of this helps. I plan on keeping the truck for a good while, and while the resale will be better on the 2021, I wonder if it will be offset by better financing rates on the 2020 like @Bishop84 said. I’ll try to make it to the dealer tomorrow and update accordingly

If your a Canadian, make sure you get a Us built 2020. Better resale, as they’re a duty free export.

Since you have to give up the rental in short order, the 2020 makes the most sense.
