ok so I'm new here, but not new to toyotas or tacomas, i'm coming back into the market and looking hard at the TRDs and that dirty four letter word...Jeep, gladiators to be exact. my question is between the off road and pro versions, assuming i get the options to make the offroad comparable to the pro, would there be anything i can not get option wise on the off raod thats available on the Pro... like crawl mode, front & rear lockers, diff ratios are the same?? things like this? i know it may be a loaded or vague question but any help would be awesome.

Operationally, drive train-wise, the Pro and OR are the same. Pro gets you better suspension, skewped hood, Pro wheels, and a few other things.

Pro gets exhaust, aluminum ifs skid, suspension, rims, hood, tail lights. I bought an off-road and added my stuff. Both have CC, rear locker, MTS. Would’ve ditched the fox junk anyway. Fox is poo, they’re so many better options out there. Factory to factory options off-roading the pro is better. But if you’re gonna actually off-road and change things get the off-road. Plus you can’t see shit over the hood anyway. So the scoop is pointless. If you’re looking to really wheel get the Jeep. If you’re looking to occasional wheel and be on road most the time. The taco. I’m going back to a Jeep. Can’t really wheel the newer trucks. The taco is 4 feet longer than my JK the gladiator is 5 feet longer. But has armor to mitigate that. The taco is a lot of exterior plastic and the paint is shit and will pinstripe when you look at it. Low and slow, go Jeep. Occasional or with some speed go toyo

You could go either way. If you can afford the pro go for it. If not or if you are going to change a bunch anyway then go for the offroad. I was looking for an offroad and the only reason I went for the Pro is that it was a left over 2019 so I got a better deal than the fully optioned out Offroad I was looking at. That said the Pro also maintains a better resale value because there is a limited number made each year so if you aren't keeping it forever it will probably pay for itself (Especially if you get a unique color). If you're going to get an offroad and then spend $800+ on the wheels, $700 on the exhaust, $400 on the skid plate, $500 on the grille, $100 for the knob, $2,500 on the shocks, however much on the lights, lift, etc. (Which a lot of people on here do) then you might as well get the pro. The interior also looks nicer with the stitching and everything. I could be wrong but I think there are a few more differences to the suspension than just the shocks (leaf springs, stabilizer bar, tuning, etc).

I'm happy with it but would have been happy with the OR as well. You will mostly get responses from people with the OR saying its not worth it and people with the Pro saying they are happy with their Pro...

I'll never understand why someone buys a pro then switches out the suspension. If that's something you're thinking about doing just get an off-road

it will be mostly a daily with light wheeling when i want to wheel in A/C i have an 88 Samurai with toy axles under it w/ 5.29s, elocker rear/lock rite front, spring over axles, missing links, Yj leaf suspension, toy power steering and some other stuff and an 08 dodge 2500 cummins 4x4 for towing rig. im kinda liking the orange accents on the interior and would want the leather w/ orange stiching... think i'm leaning towards the OR. what lift would you guys recommend for 33s and should I re-gear?

Depending on what your end-goal is. The real meat of the difference with the Pro is the Fox suspension. If you plan on changing that at any point, I'd say just get an OR with the Prem and Advanced Tech packages, unless the smaller features just really do it for you.

Might no be an issue for everyone but some people find the Pro suspension too rough/hard for daily, on-road driving. If you want a soft on-road ride, OR might be a better choice. Pro will give you softer off-road ride though, especially at higher speeds.

Honestly, compared to my 1st Gen Extracab OR/SR5, my Pro rides like a dream on-road. My wife and I took it on a 150 mile trip last weekend and she thought it was very smooth...fell asleep easily and loved the seats. I guess comfort is all relative.

I have the Pro suspension (shocks) on my OR and It’s definitely a better ride all around. The OR’s Bilstein’s compression and rebound dampening just didn’t cut it for me ... and I like the softer ride of the OR but the Fox Shocks do very well on the pavement.

If you plan on running it stock with limited mods, buy the Pro. If you plan on adding any significant mods the cost of the Pro badge is too much IMO. Unless you have to have one of the limited colors. 2020 it's Army Green.

Go OR if you want to chose your specific suspension and other mods

In my opinion and experience it depends on what width you go with, 285/75 r16 "33s" are difficult to fit without cutting the cab mount and some of the inner fender liners to eliminate rubbing while at full tire lock or with any suspension articulation. 255/85 r16 "33s" are a bit more forgiving, minimal liner cutting and 2 inch lift can work. For both I'd recommend some aftermarket UCAs and an alignment with at least 2 degrees of positive caster. If you don't want to start cutting then a 1 - 2 inch lift with 32's is the best option. 275/75 r16 or 275/70 r17 if memory serves me

Bear in mind, AG will be available on the non-Pro 2021 models (already announced for that SR5 Trail Edition)

    Canada Eh!
I went with the Pro over an OR for a number of reasons, some of which are unique to Canada:

    1. Pro trim is the only way to get 6MT in double cab with rear locker. (Canadian problem)
    2. Only way to get full LED headlights from factory with the 6MT (Canadian problem)
    3. Price differential between loaded OR was rather negligible.
    4. Been there done that when it comes to modifying suspension. I love the way the Pro comes from factory and have no intention of modifying/ replacing any of the Pro components.

I don’t find this to be the case at all. Pro suspension feels like I’m riding on clouds, even low speed.

I think most if not all the limited colors were available in non-Pro options after the first year?

For me mostly a daily driver with some off road (maybe 10% off road). I was already aware of the off road capabilities and that they would be fine for my needs (mostly sandy conditions) but I went for extended test rides at several dealerships to see how it rides on road. Suspension is surprisingly good on road and in Los Angeles with all the pot holes and messed up streets it is perfect. I do not plan on any suspension mods so I went for the Pro and am very happy with my decision.
