Looking for options for the chrome Toyota logo on the front of the 2020 OR grills. A last resort for me is to get the Pro grill but I actually like the new OR grilles minus the bulbous chrome centerpiece.. is anyone aware of options for this? Any vendors have good looking snap ins?

I've been meaning to just make a vinyl logo and cover it with some matte black vinyl. Keep the interior glossy to see how that looks or buy some MGM vinyl if the matte black didn't turn out great. Just haven't got off my lazy butt to measure it.

Ping me at about 6 tomorrow and I will go do it and take a pic of what it looks like, lol.

I though about that, my initial thought was it wouldn’t cover it well enough because the clear part is rounded, so you could see the chrome from different angles

yeah it wouldn't be an easy application to cover the sides as well on the grill, but I kinda want to see what it looks like with that color setup. Would really like another logo option to put there. A 3D printed alternative would be neat, I would need to buy a bigger rice cooker for ABS smoothing though. I don't really want to take the grill off either though. I would totally break tabs.

yeah 3D printing is what I had in mind. I don’t have those skills unfortunately, plus, I’m no artist!

Some vinyl could probably do the trick, but I think something color printed would look best

Keep in mind your radar is in there.

I covered it in matte black vinyl and covering it wasn’t hard because it actually goes back to gloss black at the ends of the logo. It just looks like garbage. Maybe a MGM vinyl would work better, but I don’t think vinyl is the right option here. A nicely made replacement that incorporates the radar into it would be the better way to go, think I am just gonna live with the chrome for now.

Yeah really sucks, the chrome logo almost ruins an otherwise great looking grill

I believe @rrentrop makes a decal that covers up the chrome.

I have my own vinyl cutter, tested it already, wasn’t a good option.

If you have TSS it's literally right behind that logo. Pop your hood and take a look. Little module sitting there.

In the pro grill they actually move it down near the bottom of the grill with a little faux plexiglass cover thing meant to make it look like part of the grill.

That sensor is probably the biggest reason why you don't see a ton of aftermarket grill badges and things like that. And one of the reasons why the pro grill is so popular.

You can see it right underneath the YO on the grill.

Yeah its pretty easy to see with the Pro, I never investigated where it was for the Off Road. I'd be willing to bet that any sort of plastic piece would be good enough. 3D printed or otherwise

I'm wondering if it would look good to plastidip the whole thing black, then put a cement colored Toyota T vinyl on top of that

It would need to be transparent to some degree.

"Transparent" to what? do these sensors need to see visible light?

It's sending out a radar signal. If you want it to work properly the signal needs to be able to go out and come back.

Plastidipping it black means you're not gonna get shit except a bunch of TSS error codes.

I dont think so, it should be transparent to the radar signals. It looks like radar operates at 77GHz in vehicles, visible light is much higher frequency than that. The signals should pass right through the plastidip, just as it passes through the badge already, and as the BSM goes through the rear plastic bumper
