    Hello,

Wanted to let people know of a car seat that does fit rear facing in 2020 Tacoma 4 door.

Recently purchased a Graco Slimfit 3 in 1 and does fit rear facing on passenger side and middle.

I am 5'11" and my wife is just barely 5'2" so the seats are not as far back as they go.

Forward facing no issues and can go anywhere.

Don't want to give up the my Truck as at some point the kiddos will go forward facing and won't be an issue.

    Hope the post helps. 20231012_104039.jpg 20231012_104102.jpg 20231012_104039.jpg 20231012_104102.jpg 20231012_104102.jpg 20231012_104229.jpg20231012_104137.jpg

Is it alright to have the seat in the middle?

@Mallcrawler20 what about it doesn’t fit? Because it’s in the middle, or maybe contacting the front seat(s)? Thanks!

    edit:
Oh lmao it’s not on the middle, my bad!

The seat should not contact the front seat . Only mount either left or right side not middle . The Tacoma has support for a child seat on the left or right side none in the middle . Facing forward the seat should be more flush to the back of the seat . Hope this helps . If u have any issues go to your local fire fighter station to have it mounted properly . It might still fit ok maybe you have it not mounted properly from the photos . They will let u know . Best of luck .

From what I have read on various things the middle seat can be considered the safest area for the car seat as it far away from side curtin airbags and more protected from side impacts.

As far as the car seat touching the seats it's not. The minimum amount of distance between the car seat touching the front seats is as long as a sheet of paper can fit between your good.

Yes, their are no car seat anchor brackets for the middle seat but they reach for either side. I don't have mine mounted in the Picture but you can use the seat belt and run it through the car seat to secure it.

I will follow up with a local FD station to be sure as I am worried about safety.

Is it perfect no. But does work as compared to no car seat or trading in the truck.

I have an evenflow Pivot car seat and they say middle mount is safe.

They also say touching is fine:

Evenflo permits contact between front vehicle seats and its rear-facing convertible or all-in-one car seats. However, the car seat should not be wedged in and should be installed in accordance with both the car seat instructions and the vehicle owner’s manual.

Not to be rude but I would go by what the manufactures says over anyone else. he The center is the safest mounting point as long as the vehicle has both the lap and shoulder belt( which the tacoma has)

And just wait until the kiddo's legs get longer and the middle-mount (with anchors used from the left and right sides) is the only option in the Tacoma. Went through this exercise about a year ago with a Graco and will continue in this configuration (with minion feet resting on center console/armrest) until we convert the Graco to a booster configuration.

Oh good point. May I ask how old or how many pounds they are?

I didn't consider how untill their legs get long enough to bend they are going to be straight into the seat or arm rest.

I am trying my hardest not to trade in the truck. Do you think you have to get another vehicle?

I was in the same mindset, and thought I'd have to trade up for a Tundra. Our kiddo is four+ years and 35+ pounds, we have the Graco in the middle position with anchor ties to the inner left and right seats - it works fine. When she's stretched out her feet are resting on the center console, back of the armrest, and doesn't seem to mind (and we don't have to endure her kicking the backs of the front seats). When she gets big enough we'll ditch the full carseat and just convert to the booster (part of the 3-in-1 system) and should be able to reposition the booster to either the left or right seats appropriately, and NOT have to get rid of the Tacoma.

The only real downside is that if you use the anti-whiplash strap (over the back of the seat and tied to the anchor behind) you've pretty much locked the carseat in place and hindered your ability to fold either of the 60/40 back seats down and eliminated easy-access to any under/behind seat storage in the back. If that's important to you, something to consider...

Thank you so much for the info! You make some great points.

I did think of getting a Tundra but the darn thing won't fit on my garage.

OK good I think keeping the mind set it will work and is safe is what my wife and I need. If we have a second kiddo I did notice the Chico flex will fit in the middle and this Garco will go on the passenger side. Or just get another Slimfit and keep the new born inserts in.

I love my Tacoma and going to try to keep it as long as I can just wish the cab was just a little bit longer and there would be no issue but oh well, gotta over come and adapt and still keep the kiddo safe.

Thank you again for the info.
