I am considering selling my 2017 tacoma pro and getting into a 2020. When I purchased my pro a sunroof was not an option, which is A good thing. When I was looking at the 2020 I thought I saw you could only get a pro with a sunroof. Can anyone confirm if this is true?

I'm not a fan of sunroofs either, mostly for noise. I've got an OR with premium package (which includes sunroof) and was very quiet on a recent road trip with skis on the roof - as long as I keep the cover closed.

My 2020 is remarkably quiet, there were a few changes for this year to help with noise. One (afaik is new) is seals between the doors and I'm pretty sure there's more sound deadening glass.

I highly recommend you drive a 2020 before focusing on it too much. Go drive a trd TRD offroad, it's the same truck in that regard.

Now, if it's leak concerns or functionality, I've got nothin and you know what you do or don't like, I respect that. Some people don't mess with sunroofs. My grandfather said "I just don't understand paying for a car with a hole in the roof." Hm, well that does make sense too. Lol

It’s not a quiet or leak thing. I’m just not a fan of sunroofs and never use them in my vehicles. I’m also concerned with headroom, as I am 6’1”. Looks like I’m keeping my truck for a long time. Thanks for the info.

Headroom! Yeah, huge difference. I'm short, so it never crossed my mind (or scalp).

The sunroof has been standard equipment on the Pro for a few years now, maybe the headroom will be slightly increased on the 2020 since the power seat has a little downward travel.

I'm 6 even and wear hats. Never touched the roof. If that's your concern it's easy enough to just test drive one and see.

My 2018 TRD Sport DCSB sunroof makes no noise and doesn't leak, so I'm a fan.
The sunroof started coming std on TRD Pro in 2019.

Love my sunroof. When you close the shade, its like its not even there, absolutely no noise. Im 5'11" and got no issues with headroom.

I had factory sunroofs in couple cars i had and never an issue with them, even in a 91 civic si with 250k miles.

My sunroof doesn’t leak either. I never use it though. Also more wind noise from mirrors and doors than the roof. 80mph sounds like a tornado.

Noticeable noise level on my truck (at least for me):

    1. Android Auto
    2. Catback
    3. Tires
    4. Everything else
    .
    .
    .
    100. Closed sunroof

First time my Tacoma or Civic sunroofs leak due to failure that's not on the driver's part, I'll post up.
This isn't the 80s/90s. Sunroofs don't fail like they used to. Just like electric seats. 30 years of progress counts for something.

One of the reasons I bought my 19 Pro was because of the sunroof. I’ve had them in almost every car I’ve owned and never had a single issue with any of them, even in my 64’ VW! Hell even in my 61,62 canvas ragtops!! I’m only 5’9” so headroom isn’t an issue and it’s pretty quiet with the cover closed.

I have a 19’ PRO with sunroof, and I thought I’d never use it. Turns out on good weather days it’s perfect for a little cool air to get in without rolling the cab windows down etc

I’m just not a fan of sunroof’s anymore. They add unnecessary weight and I will never use it. I recently added front seat risers and now I don’t need power seats. I might sit in a tacoma that has a sunroof next time I’m at the dealer.

Reminds me of my first car with heated seats. I thought they where a gimmick and I would never use them. Now I am hooked and would never buy another car without them. Any yes, I love my Tacoma sunroof.

If only the Tacoma came with seat coolers. My wife’s 2015 highlander has them and they are so necessary in Florida 9-10 months out of the year.
