So it has been overcast in our area, and I was having a little difficulty seeing the instrument cluster. I thought that my other Tacomas had at least the dial lighted on the speedometer and tach. On my 2020, there are no instrument cluster lights unless you turn on the lights. Is my truck functioning properly? Anyone else noticed this?

    Thanks
    Jon

I never had a vehicle that had lights on cluster on unless you turned on the lights.
Maybe I just have crap cars.

My 2009 Tacoma had dash lights that were on anytime the ignition was on.
My 2019 doesn't have dash lights unless you turn on the lights.

It's normal, dude. Turn your parking lights on.

I prefer clusters that aren't back-lit all the time a là Lexus. When they fail, they're dead and a pain in the D to fix usually.

I like my taco just how it is. I was surprised by the blue backlighting, somehow I overlooked that until AFTER I ordered my truck. It was the best surprise, I expected typical Toyota orange/amber or green and I love the blue, absolutely perfect to me. I always liked the certain era VW clusters that were dark blue but the taco is a more gentle shade.

The reality is if it’s overcast enough that seeing your cluster is difficult, you need to have your headlights on. Just because you can see the road doesn’t mean they don’t need to be on.

My 2011 had always on dash lights. I was glad the 2017 didn't. More than once in the 2011 I drove around through town after dark not realizing my headlights were off.

Drl? Is that a thing for non-auto headlights? For mine, I have off, auto (drls on), parking, on. (Completely serious question.)

    OFF, DRL, Parking, and On.

I'm surprised I have the option to turn off the DRL at all.

Thanks for all of the replies! I just wanted to confirm that mine was operating correctly as I like them off instead of on.

    thanks
