Hi all, I am the proud owner of a 2019 TRD Off-road and am desiring to change my current grill which comes equipped with a collision prevention system for a TRD Pro style grill with the Toyota lettering. I am however finding no grills that fit my trim and all the parts people at Toyota dealerships state it is not possible due to the collision prevention technology. Any feedback or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated! I have attached a picture of the grill style I desire to switch to.
    Thanks,
    Kyle

I also recently bought a 2019 TRD Off-Road and was able to find an OEM TRD Pro Grille w/ the TSS insert on Ebay. Installation was easy and I've had no issues/errors w/ the TSS system. I think most of the knockoff grilles now work with the TSS insert as well.

I am pretty anal about always buying OEM when possible until I also found a TRD Pro knock off on ebay. At the time, the OEM was 4x the cost of a Faux grill. I thought to myself that I could buy 4 of these grills should they get damaged by the sun, rocks, etc. SO far, I have had it for over a year and it still looks just as good as the day I installed it. Now that the price of the OEM has gone down a bit, I may just get one should it need replacing. May still be the same "Expensive" here in Hawaii though.

TSS is the reason I’ve never swapped out my grille. I know if it malfunctions after I put a $100 eBay grille on it and someone rear ends me on the freeway I’d likely be at fault. Now I’ve discovered that everyone has the pro grille and I like my stock OR black grille. So I’m keeping it. I don’t want to pretend I’m a pro either when I just have the 35k OR trim.

I was an OEM whore until the 4th toyota dealership told me to fuck off for trying to do the right thing and give Toyota my money; so now I'm the proud owner of the glorious chinese replica. Nobody can tell the difference and it took me about an hour, TSS works great still and dealer hasn't said shit to me about it.

Yeah, being a brand new truck I was nervous not putting anything OEM on it and possibly voiding warranty. Plus I was able to find the OEM with the TSS garnish for around $250 on ebay, so it wasn't quite as expensive versus the knockoffs.

As far as replacing the grilles go, I think most people aren't trying to pretend they have a Pro, it's just a preference on aesthetics of the grilles. Some people like the SR5 grille, some like the chicken wire grilles of the Sport and OR packages, and others prefer the Pro grille. I personally felt the Pro grille looks the best.

    Aftermarket radio knobs, woot!
Getting rid of the cheese grater overrode any lingering fear of being perceived as a poser. The 19 grills are much better than the 17 grill, which was hideous and only got uglier every time I thought about it right up until I replaced it.

There is a recall on the TSS (leaks or some such) and I wonder how Toyota dealership will react to an aftermarket grill.

I hear you but just be aware, some of those people posting as genuine OEM may in fact be selling the chinese grill. When you receive it, check to be sure that Toyota and the part number is stamped on the inside of the grill. The Chinese grill isnt bad, but wouldnt want you to be paying $250 for something that should be selling for $100.

Good point. It's been on the truck already for a couple months. I'm pretty sure I saw the part number stamped on it...but memory is a little foggy. It was supposedly from a Toyota dealership, and came in what looked to be OEM packaging, so if it is a knockoff I guess kudos to them for going through all the trouble to appear to be OEM.

Posted this up in a different thread, but swapping the chrome bezel for a black one brings the OR grille together nicely imo:

Where did you guys get the black bezel? Or do you mean you did it yourself?

You have a few options, depending on comfort level and budget.

For a cheap "DIY," you can either plasti dip or paint the bezel. The finish and durability will vary.

Otherwise, you can either have it wrapped (which I did, mainly out of convenience while my windows were being tinted) or purchase the SR black plastic bezel to replace it wholesale, which will probably have the best longevity/durability. Here's an example: https://www.ebay.com/p/Genuine-Toyota-Tacoma-2016-2019-SR-Black-Grille-Trim-Bezel-OE-OEM/658965774

Thanks for the info. Now I think I’ll just plastidip the bezel and be done with it.

4Runner Trail wheels and Toyo Open Country ATII tires 265-70-17. Cosmetic stuff like Pro grille and OffRoad black bumper trim, vinyl delete on side, added hood graphic, OEM tube steps.
The black bezel is under $100 from Camelback. Why waste the time and effort of Plastidip?

Sometimes I wonder about some of those dealers. Do they really think that people live in the stone age and can't do a simple search on the net? OP, in your case your dealer is full of it. I have an OR and replaced my grill with the OE PRO grille (like you posted). It is all plug and play and sensor works just fine. Make sure to buy an extended harness to make it look totally OEM.

Because it’s a simple project. Why waste $100 bucks on something I can easily do myself?
