    Hi All,

I've searched and searched and haven't been able to find anything all that helpful. I'll go to start the engine and about 1 second after the start, and only lasting for a split second, I hear a strange noise. I have read/seen people talking about piston slap, vvt rattle, etc. The thing is, none of this, from what I can tell, is the case. I wouldn't describe it as a rattle, knock, or grinding....necessarily.

The truck has roughly 43K miles on it. I've done mobil 1 full synthetic extended performance and mobile 1 oil filters every 5k since new. I wouldn't think anything of the noise if it had always done it, but it started maybe a month ago or so...I'll get a video of it when I can, but since I just started it, it won't do it again until it sits for a while.

Am I just paranoid here??? I say this coming from a Ford F150 that ended up doing something similar and was the timing chain! UGH - I bought the toyota because I felt that toyota didn't have this sort of BS.

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Need recording. Must be something very minor. Here's a 2TR-FE owner that replaced his engine at 880,000 miles only because it needed a new cylinder head gasket. Oil consumption at that mileage was still only 1 quart per 4,000 miles. https://youtu.be/8glWcEuxw3U

    Hey everyone,

Thought I'd post an update. I went out to record the noise a day or two after my original post, and I couldn't replicate it. Now almost 2 months later I have yet to hear it again and have mostly forgotten about it. I still have no idea what it was. Maybe it was something with the temp/humidity in my area around the time and the fact that I was letting it set for days between driving it? In any event, the noise seems to be gone completely and I should change my name from Gavia to Chicken Little lol.

I have same as you 2016 2.7 with about 45k miles. Never had a strange noise but I could have missed it if it’s only a split second. I wouldn’t worry about it since it drives fine and starts consistently. Forget about chicken little. Nobody likes a weird sound in their outfit. I’m really happy with 2.7/auto trans setup in mine. Not one problem in almost 5 years and so far always gets me home.
