So I recently got a 2018 Toyota Tacoma SR and having to use the key on the driver side door to unlock the doors is getting old quick. I can't seem to find any threads related to this, but perhaps I don't know what to look up because this is my first car and I'm still learning.

Is there a way to install a system so I can get a key fob, allowing me to unlock the doors with a push of a button on the fob? I've got to say, I'm pretty disappointed that it didn't come with it, as I've never even seen a car that doesn't have it. I'm not talking about remote start, or push to start. I merely want to unlock the car doors without having to insert the key into the driver side door.

Isn't that one of the first things you'd notice on a test drive?

yea we (my parents and I) noticed it, but frankly it's not like its a dealbreaker. Being my first car, its not like it needs to have all the bells and whistles. However, we actually got scammed by an official Toyota dealership salesman. He advertised the car as an SR5 and told us it was an SR5 multiple times. We made the mistake of not researching what each trim level had before we went, so we took his word for it and merely understood that it was trim level 2. Well, when we bought the car I began to realize that other Tacomas have a chrome grille etc, and looked up my vin number. Turns out it was built as an SR. I had my dad get out the papers and every reference to the car is simply "2018 Toyota Tacoma", so theres nothing we can do about it.

If none of the above methods work out for you, ask local audio/security car shops to see about an install. A couple places by me offered to do it, but I wanted remote start as well, so it was bundled in.

Dude I would be quite pissed at that dealer and salesman, there are a few other SR vs SR5 differences, audio unit, XM comes on an SR5, privacy glass on an SR5, “Keyless as standard” on an SR5. Fender flares, aluminum wheels. Different fabric on the seats and fog lights to name a few.

oh yes, im beyond pissed. Unfortunately I don't think theres anything I can do about it though other than writing a review which I already did. Hey, at least I learned to make sure the contract/papers specify trim level. Obviously they purposefully made it as vague as possible to screw us over. If you/anybody think there's something I can do about it, then let me know. I'm only 18, but im more than willing to call up the dealer and make my name known. I just joined the site a few minutes ago, so I plan on making a separate thread to address this issue.

So here I am 5 years later just figuring out that my 2018 Tacoma SR did not come with keyless entry. First, let me say that is insane! Second, I've been trying to figure out what is wrong with my keyfob and order a potential replacement when Toms Keys told me that mine must be aftermarket... Of course, when I bought this truck used 3 years ago or so there was no mention of this, so unfortunately I doubt the dealer has an information they can or are willing to share. That being said, is there a way to tell where the after market key fob came from or what brand it is so that I can try and get the fob fixed?

That's a Toyota fob right? Has the battery been changed?

That’s what I thought, it looks the exact same as the one my 2001 4Runner had. Yes, I changed the battery in it when I first started trouble shooting the fob.

Hmmmm. I’ve taken my wife’s remote apart when it stopped working a couple of times. I cleaned the contacts & circuit board carefully with a Qtip dabbed in rubbing alcohol as they do get dirty…if that doesn’t work, you might try a Toyota dealership. They might be able to help you out…good luck to ya..

    Smart phones.
    Smart TV's.
    Smart Keys.
Smart refrigerators for cryin out loud...

I tell ya the smarter these devices get the stupider I become.

No wonder there is a 'chip' shortage - have you tried to buy a new TV lately ?....
Holy Mother of Gawd every one of these things have friggin computer chips in 'em....

LED, QED, QNED, OLED .... they're all 'SMART' .... and connect to the internet, and get software updates.
UPDATES for a daum TV .... some of them throw ads at you before you can 'watch' what you already paid for.

I'm dropping over $1,000 tomorrow because my old standard dumb-azz-LED-TV is going on the blink.
Say a little prayer for me 'eh.... or perhaps not you don't wanna get caught up in guilt by association....
