I have a 17 TRD SPORT DCSB with 3" spacers on the front and 2" blocks on the back. I bought 275/70/17 general grabbers from dicount tires back in Apr. I had cupping on the tires in the front. Took them to DT to be balanced and rotated and they identified the cupping.
I started by ordering the RC 3" struts to replace the spacers and will be getting an alignment the same day as strut install.
The tires were rotated at 10k miles. DT recommended every 3k-5k miles.
What do you think caused it?
I've had the spacers for about three years and this is the first time I've had a problem. I've always wanted to get away from the spacers so this gave me the reason to nab the RC struts.
But, I feel now I have to drop another grand on tires to stop the bouncing and shaking.
What can be done to prevent this again? Is there anything else I should do to eliminate a possible problem? Does DT shave tires?
I'm stressing about having to buy another new set of tires and it's only been 5-6 months

    Thank you for this!!!!!!
Any advice on what to do with the tires now? Keep till they smooth, if they will? Buy another set? See if I can find someone to shave them?

Rotate more often, like mentioned at 5k. Take it to an alignment specialist, not chain store hacks.

Rotating is really quite pointless. Your issue is caused by your alignment. My guess is your toe was way off. Once tires have a wear pattern, it doesn't correct itself. Your options are either deal with the shaking or get new tires. If you get new tires, you need to have it aligned. If you are dealing with discount, they don't do alignments. Something I find quite odd for a tire store.

Is it cupping or sawtooth wear? If it like a sawblade looking from the side it is due to hard braking and soft tire compound. Rotate in an X pattern more often..

Always thought tire cupping was a result of worn shocks?

It is a very generic term. I have never seen tires cupped from worn shocks. Probably something that happened in the 70 with bias ply tires and shocks that needed to be replaced every 10k, but with modern cars, no. Worn shocks are mostly a self correcting problem. You are not going to be able to drive a car with worn shocks long enough to damage the tires, and the chances are someone that is driving a car with worn shocks, tire condition is probably not a concern.

When i had a tire cupping issue with my tundra at 180k miles that my buddy noticed at his shop one day. I had it checked out by him later...he found the all the trucks original struts, and rear shocks toast. His shop replaced them. I couldn't believe how much better the truck rode afterwards. I guess you don't notice it as shocks gradually degrade.

Less alignments = more tire sales? Good strategy for a tires-only store. :)

True, unless you are in business to make money. The margins on tires are low and trying to compete against places like Costco selling at near cost and ridiculously low install prices, it makes it even harder. Alignments are high margin services. I mean your material costs are negligible. All you need is a $40k machine and you can crank out 20 alignments a day. You could turn $500k in revenue a year. It is hard to get that kind of cash out of a tire rack. The business model that most shops work on is that tires get them in the door and you make money on other services. Alignments are a logical component of that model because no only do you make money with alignments, they open the door to a lot of profitable suspension work. That is the reason that everyone offers 'free' alignment checks.

Maybe the big guys do, but every independent shop here won't do anything unless you specifically specify you want an alignment done. Their are never going to tell you, btw your vehicle needs an alignment.

we took out a guy to ride along beside his truck while we did typical

Not out o the ordinary driving

    asphalt......concrete.....crowned roads.............entrance inout o driveways

he had never seen the wheels go thru that many changes

    no less U have a 2017...........how many mile s??????

what could be worn that along with the tyres are giving U issues & concerns

if U had a set o take off standard tyres that run & give U same issues = suspension

    run & NOT give U grief= tyres

still U might need to refresh Ur front end

Cupping can be the result of worn shocks not able to dampen suspension oscillation. Changing the shocks should help. While in there make sure that there are no other worn out components like the ball joints, control arm and sway bar bushings, and sway bar end links.
