    Great to join the community!

Just trying to figure out where everyone is running their Tacoma's after moving up a notch from 265/65/r17 to 265/70/r17.

Just got my new Toyo AT3s in 265/70/r17 and they look underinflated at 35psi?

I took them up to 36psi (not cold) and they look a little better, meaning less bulge on the sides...

Where should I be on this for best performance and treadwear?

    Thanks in advance!

I am thinking 42 warm, right? That is where I was thinking I would end up if just looking at the tire...thanks man!

Thanks for the point to 4WheelParts!

For daily driving & freeway yes. It says on tires no more than 60psi FYi

If I can add on to this,

I stepped up in profile as well on my 2018 DCSB Sport. I went with 265/70/17r Nitto Terra Grappler G2’s from the factory 265/65-17r Toyo A30’s.

Is there a “best pressure” to run for fuel economy?

I noticed a much larger drop in my mpg than I was expecting when switching, about 7 mpg lower. From ~23mpg to ~16mpg.

Ouch that’s a significant drop are those E rated? I dropped about that much going from a Michelin’s to E rated KO2s in my 4Runner. Heavy tires = unsprung weight + rolling resistance definitely matters.

They are supposed to bulge, fronts and rears 35psi warm, 29 psi cold.

If you run 40psi unloaded it will wear the center tread out, plus these trucks ride better at lower psi.

I am sure they’re not E rated, those are four ply sidewall correct? I believe these just two ply. I can’t remember what load rating that should be.

It definitely makes sense that heavier tires would cause more rolling resistance, I just couldn’t believe it was this huge of a difference!

Just for the record mine are at about 32 cold, and around 35 hot

I have the AT3s in 255/70r17, I run at 35 psi cold according to the TPMS and it heats up to 38 psi on the road.
But anyways, I used the chalk method to find what pressure to run. It's a super easy test, you just need a piece of chalk and about 100 yards of empty pavement to drive straight on. You rub the treads with chalk, drive straight, check to see where the chalk wears off and that tells you if you are over or under inflated.

Yes there is a trade off looking Good the toyo tires that came with my truck on the Drive home from the dealer 795 miles I got 22 a few weeks later got rid of the tires to put on my 2009 Tacoma to sell it & put on Toyo 26/70/17” RTs now I get 15 mph mixed city & freeway so unless you switch back to the originals no to your ?

It has been more than 6 months since someone posted on this thread. It seems like more people have gotten these tires for their trucks. Would appreciate people’s experiences with tire pressure especially for the SL rated tires at this size. Thanks!

I have been on 265/70/17 Toyo open country at2 tires sl rated and run 30 cold with nitrogen. Get up to 33 lbs when warm and they don't drop below 29 when it's cold. Mine stays in a heated and ac garage. I rotate them every 5k and rebalance every 10k. Look perfect, no issues. I say 30 cold since they are a little bigger than the stock size.

If it’s SL 30-32 psi would be fine. If it’s C or E Load 35 psi minimum.

E load are 10 ply rated. C loads are 6 ply rated and SL are 4 ply rated. Just keep in mind those are just ratings, the tires don’t actually have 10 or 6 plies.

Run 40psi if you want to feel like a rock rolling down the road and run 35 for normal operation and run 30 on stock tires.

Old thread but I have a Toyo Open Country M/T 265/75/R16 on my 02 Tacoma. They were on it when I bought it and only had about 1k miles at the time. I am trying to figure out the tire pressure to use and will try the chalk trick soon. I checked the pressure and they are at around 42 psi now. I'm getting 12 mpg city and around 14 highway. Any recommendations?

    I think that’s about right with Mud terrain E load 31”s and 1GR FE. Unless you’ve got a 4cyl?

You are in a 3rd gen forum by the way.
