Hey everyone, I have a 2017 tacoma trd offroad and it randomy threw a P2420 code. The dealership changed the charcoal canister due to a leak, however, the check engine light is still reading the same P2420 code. Even the dealer is stumped. Has anyone ran into this issue and actually fixed it? Thanks

What issues are you having other than the code and Christmas tree of lights on your dash?

Did the dealer check the cap or swap it?

Did the dealer check for filler pipe damage? Some folks have drilled through the filler when expanding the left bed drain hole for some tonneau installations. Otherwise, some bad folks will drill through the filler to siphon fuel.

Fuel pump recall done? I believe a few folks got a DTC for incomplete work during the fuel pump recall.

The truck drives perfectly except for the light show on the dash. No lack of power, no misfiring. They've checked the gas cap as well and that seemed alright. I've never heard of drilling through the filler but then again I can see that happening.

Sometimes the caps can go bad or get crud / insects in them. Most autoparts stores can test a cap. The dealer should be able to also.

For anyone else having this problem, I heard back from the dealership today. They ran an external wire from the fuse box to the charcoal canister and the check engine light went off. This led them to think the wiring harness under the truck had a short in it causing the canister to go bad. New harness and new canister later, we're good to go. I hope this helps and thank you everyone for the quick responses.
