    Good Morning,

I recently noticed my main key fob (non-push-to-start/smart fob) seemed to have a dying battery. I swapped it with a fresh CR2016 battery. Upon my next use, the FOB does not work and the spare fob is also not functioning. I swapped the battery on the spare set as well.

I've disconnected the battery for 15 minutes, checked the ECU-ACC fuze (7.5 amp under the steering wheel), and still no luck.

I am guessing the receiver is the issue, but I do not know where it is located on the Gen 3 DC bodies.

Theory: If the receiver is located in the headliner, I could have had water damage as my truck has the recall for the third center brake light. I've got a cap on the truck and the dealership rejected me until I remove it. I'm planning to get this recall completed next week.

This doesn't seem to be a frequent issue for others.

    Thanks,
    Jack

Did you try another new battery and make sure they were installed correctly? Dumb sounding question, but sometimes it's the simple things.

So I swapped a thought to be dead Energizer CR2016 battery in my main FOB (FOB A) for a new Duracell. My spare FOB (FOB B) had a duracell, which wasn't functioning when I tried it. I swapped both with fresh new Duracells and still got zero function. Upon your post, I decided to use the thought to be dying energizer and now FOB A and B with the energizer work.

I have a small flashlight and the Duracells all work in that so I am very confused, but happy it seems to be a weird battery brand preference. I am not an electrical engineer so I have no idea why my FOBs didn't like 4 different new duracell CR2016 batteries.

Does the new Duracell have the bitter coating? I’ve found that Toyota fobs don’t like that coating. I was able to sand it off and mine started working. Worth a shot.

I've always used energizer's in mine. Never had any issues.

Yes to the bitter coating. I'm guessing that's the issue. I was able to return my Duracells and the energizers worked. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions.

    Don’t they use 2032?

2016 battery is slightly thinner than a 2032 battery. 2016 battery has a slightly lower mAh. If the Fob continues to act flakey I would try a 2032 and clean the metal contacts in the Fob with steel wool.
