2017 Super White Tacoma TRD Offroad
    Hey Everyone!
so I'm kinda looking for some advice here. I have a 2017 super white Tacoma OR. I have about 46k miles on it and the bumper to bumper ended 10k miles ago. as you can see in the photo after washing the truck i noticed that i have these spots and when i run a clean microfiber cloth on it sure enough white paint gets on it. This is so far the only area i've noticed it.

After doing some research on it, apparently its a common issue with the Blizzard white and super white colors and that Toyota issued a recall on pretty much all models except for the Tacoma's as far as i can tell.

so the question is here, am i screwed without having the bumper to bumper warranty or is their possibly something else i can do to help this? I haven't called the dealer yet because i have a feeling that i already know what they are going to say.

    Thanks!

If the super white on the Tacoma is anything like it was on my old Corolla...there is no clear coat. Just two coats of the white paint.

If you got white deposits on your rag that's the first clue you don't have any clear that a two stage paint would have. What you have is a single stage white topcoat. The good news is that it can be buffed back to a gloss finish.

I read that they mix the clear and white and shoot it single stage. Should buff up fine with some Meguire’s polish.

Look at your window sticker. There was (is?) a two-stage option for SW.

You got clear coat? Might as well just rock the pastel look.

I just did and cannot find it on the current models. I tried googling since I remember seeing it on a window sticker. Nothing is coming up quickly, so I am probably wrong.

    Sorry!

I used to use NuFinish on my old Corolla. I find now that a nice carnauba wax and an electric buffer can do miracles.

It depends on what kind of polisher you have, I use a Dewalt rotary polisher and use a cutting compound with a wool pad followed with a foam pad with a finishing compound. There are safer polishers besides a rotary type like an Orbital Dual polisher but that's not what I use. $.02

It does have a clear coat, which is why that's peeling off clear instead of white. From what I understand, Super white has the clear and paint mixed in and it's sprayed together. The clear is lighter and goes up to the surface so its's a lot thinner and brittle compared to a real 2-stage paint.

    Nononono.
Single stage. No clear. No clear mixed in. It has a hardener or binder that's mixed. It does not magically float to the top

I could be wrong, usually am, but I thought I saw pictures of people's clear coat peeling off. Not just the entire paint chips. But in OP's case, makes sense since OP is getting white paint on the microfiber towel.
