So I noticed that Toyota went a step further and made the new hood scoop look falsely functional, but how hard is it to make it actually work this time? From what I saw the hood scoop had a functional grill that opened up into just a basic plastic box that is still sealed from the engine compartment. Can this just be easily separated? or does it require cutting and drilling like the Gen2? I dont understand why they cant just make it actually function

There is another thread somewhere, where a guy was pleading with a vendor to make a lightbar that would fit inside the hoodskewp

Im sure there is something to be found, not sure how much light it would throw on the road. For a visual mod you could just pop some LEDs into that box behind the hood scoop grill

I absolutely hated 2nd gen tundra black insert that was supposed to be forced air induct. It looked so cheap. Seriously for the first few years I didn't even know it was supposed to be a fake air intake.

The new tundras and Tacoma's however are much improved and "look" functional. The new Tacoma even has space behind the cover to further enhance the illusion. I was on the fence about the scoop, but now I am all for it.

A light bar in there would be pretty cool. Not for me, but cool none the less.

If you don't have an intercooler on the top of the engine, what would the function be even if it were open?

Can anyone disassemble the part that plugs the scoop? Please post a picture of every angle. We will all love you forever.

I might throw in a beer...

Only benefit I could see would be to help cool down the temps in the compartment. Personally, I kept mine closed as it wasn't worth the water issue it'd have.

Now if they routed the intake to pull air from that such as a ram air that would be cool

Drawing air out would be ideal. It's low profile enough that it should function in that manner even with it pointing forward. The massive grill up front will create way more pressure than the air trying to enter the scoop, so theoretically it should act like a vent, which is never a bad thing. As far as water is concerned, that really doesn't even need to be addressed. It's not a tight seal as it sits and if you're driving in the rain the mist from the road and the water coming through the front bumper will likely be more noticeable than anything that would come in from the hood scoop. You just never notice it because the heat from the engine causes it to evaporate rapidly. But aside from ram air direct to the filter or a vent, might as well make it knight rider cool

Volant should have a great time making a scoop for their intake on this one, grille is wide open

I too wonder about routing air into the air box via the scoop. Like Rock Lobsters pictures.

Why. The ram air affect starts helping around 200mph. You will just draw more dust and water into your throttle body than anything positive

I did the scoop mod on mine just because I wanted it to do something other than look like it does. It will help with the cooling down of the engine which is not a bad idea especially after the weather we are having 90's for the past seems like a year. I don't have problems with water getting in a little will get in but not enough to do anything and if it decides to rain like hell I am making a plastic flexable cover that will fit in the front of the small grill.

So true. I really wanted color-keyed flares and bumper without having to get the tech package, otherwise I would have gone OR. I may trade somebody at some point or I may look into some piece that could replace the "step up" and bring it down to just the level of the first stage of the skewp. I have a guy at work that has a 3d printer. I may hit him up.

Apparently the skewp needs to be proportional to the grille to keep the feng shui going.
