So the paint on the roof, pillars, and hood of my Tacoma is going bad. Went to the dealership to have them take a look at it and they stated they can’t do anything about it and I would have to pay out of pocket. They gave me the cooperate # of Toyota to report my situation and it was the same outcome. Apparently there is only a recall on the white trucks which I think is bulls***. Anyone else having this problem with their vehicle? IMG_8012.jpg IMG_8013.jpg

Since i moved to the inland empire i seen a ton MGM colored tacomas that are starting to fade , it could be a color problem , it could be a shade problem or it can be the chemicals in the soap thats corroding the paint this way . Either way you need to get it Clear Coated asap

Wow. That truck is cooked! The hood might be able to be brought back but the roof is toast.

Thats not the point. Paint in general shouldn’t do that at least within the first 10 years. My truck was maintained on a regular basis.

All new cars have water based paint for environmental/health reasons. It doesn't last as long. Looking at the wipers and the weatherstripping the truck has spent a significant amount of time in the sun.

Find a reputable body shop and have it resprayed. It is what it is.

    That’s bullshit.

Paint on my 2007 ranger looked mint with 165k miles when I sold it. Parked outside most of its life.

Dude, look at your truck. The plastic on the cowl, the weatherstrip around your windows, and, your paint.
Say what you want but that looks exactly like a vehicle that has been parked in the direct sunlight for eight years with no waxes or any type of protection.
Nothing can hold up for that long without degrading when you provide zero relief.

Did you wash it. Did you wax it. Did you take good care of it.
THis guys looks like he drove it through an auto car wash every 3rd day and parked it on a bllack asphalt parking lot in a place that only has 12 Augusts and no cloud cover.
And BC has clouds. His truck looks like a Death Valley truck.

My 2013 Sienna is Magnetic Grey and has 0 issues and 81K. 11 Ohio winters.
My other Toyotas never had paint issues since 1989.

My 17 Tacoma is Barcelona Red. 0 winters and garage kept with 31K. Paint is starting to separate above the side windows.
This is a Toyota issue. Maybe if enough people bitch on this website Toyota will listen.

I took my truck to the dealership and was told Toyota wont fix it and it was just barely out of warranty. So far mine is still minor but its just a matter of time.
We got jerked over with leaking struts on the Sienna while still under warranty. They kept telling me it was normal for struts to seep but as soon as the warranty expired the seep became a leak. I didn't let them touch it.

I am enjoying our new Mazda CX5. First non Toyota in 34 years. The RAV4 was on our list of choices but was removed after Toyota jerked me over the paint and struts.

Last time I checked the sun does not come out often in BC. OP resides in SoCal where we have 300+ cloudless days per year. Doesn't look like the OP properly maintained the paint and let the truck bake outside in the desert sun.

The newer paints are more environmentally friendly, but they don't last long. They also don't hold up to bird crap and other stuff. 2010/2011 was really when it started to go downhill. Nothing we can do about it...

Yes I did wash it and wax it. Washed it 2-3 times a month and waxed every 2-3 months or so.

Some parts of BC are quite sunny like the area I live in now. I used to live in lower mainland (Vancouver area) and yes there is definitely less sun. FWIW my truck sat in the sun in summer/spring Mon-fri, I only moved it on the weekends. Still, paint was flawless.

You checked wrong sir. Definitely not all BC. For example Prince George has ~320 sunny days. It’s been sunny here for past 3 weeks or so.

Also Op stated that his truck was maintained:
