So I’ve already done a fair bit of searching, but I need help.

I have a 2016 TRD Off-road that won’t start. It has an after-market Viper Remote start (installed 6 months ago. No problems.)

Today I noticed it was slow to start after sitting in the sun for 8+ hours while I was at work, but it started and was fine as I drove around for the next 4 hours. I stopped for about 2 hours and when I came out, it wouldn’t start, but I was able to jump it and drive home. Now it won’t start again.

All the lights and radio turned on and worked. The engine would click and try to turn over, but couldn’t start. And the clicking was really loud (which sounded weird, but maybe that’s just me). It says “Check Charging System”. I’m wondering if it has something to do with my remote start.

When the truck is in accessory mode and I press the brake to start as normal, all the lights and power turn off and that’s when it clicks.

Also tried starting with remote start and all the lights just flash.

    Can anyone help me??

Sounds like bad battery. Go to autozone & get it tested. It may be covered by warranty if under 36k miles

Battery. Yes they can last for several years or a few years, depending on several factors.

A dead battery will often run accessories, but not have the jam to start the motor.

You also should check for a keyoff battery drain. If you have a voltmeter, you could check the charge voltage.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will check the battery and report any issues.

Unfortunately my voltmeter is out of the state right now.

Autozone will test it and I think its free!! They should be able to tell you if you have a battery drain as well and the state of your charging system.

Sounds like a dead battery. I never checked how many years these batteries are good for but it should be pretty close to what they are rated for. If say 3 year battery it wont go much longer and start to show signs of needing replacement.

You know now why they advertise "cold cranking amps". Battery can have 12v but very little amps so not enough to start but enough juice to run acc stuff for a little while.

Turn on your headlights without the engine running...dim = battery either not charging or a bad battery.

My stock battery went kaput at 18k, replaced with a 2xPower AGM (Batteries Plus branded NorthStar deep cell battery) w/ a 5yr warranty.

Go to a parts house for a battery test. Likely will be bad/failing.

Then go to Costco for your Interstate Battery replacement. Mine was $98. My neighbors (same battery), at an independant shop was $173.

Of course his was installed. Mine wasn't.

Had a very similar issue a week ago, same exact symptoms. 100% stock though. Took it in and the dealer ran a test on the battery, bad cell and replaced it for free.

Edit: Autozone did a test and it only showed a low charge, the dealer has better equipment and was able to diagnose it properly

When you put the load on it to start , the battery cannot supply the current so the voltage goes down towards zero and nothing comes on/ everything goes off. Bet you have a bad cell. Was a batch in 2016. I had one go out.
Bet you get a check engine and track control light on after bat replacement.
