I just recently purchased a limited 2016 Tacoma and I need to transport a car to my son in FLA but when I try to get a car dolly I need to show the hitch capacity. From what I am finding its 3500 but I find on in site it is 5k. My hitch does not have a sticker on it and I can not prove what it is.
I called the dealership and they can only tell me the towing capacity of the truck is 6400 lbs. My truck comes with the Toyota hitch package.

    Need help ASAP. Thanks

This totally doesn't help much but I have a recovery point in my factory tow hitch and was able to be the anchor for a Wrangler while he winched out of a mud hole. That had to have been at least 3k lbs, because I had to anchor to a land cruiser to keep from.slidonf back.
Idk just thought I'd share that

It's not in the manual? I thought their website listed it as 6400 with the tow package

Yes overall capacity of the vehicle is 6400 but I need to know the hitch weight which is either 3500 or 5k. Uhaul wont let me have one if 3500.

The Toyota hitch doesn't have a sticker on it but can tow what the truck is rated for. If the U-haul location you're going to doesn't believe the manual or their own website find a location with employees who can think.

The factory installed hitch is rated to 10% of towing capacity. This is all in the manual. So if you have the towing package for 6400 lbs, the hitch itself is rated to 640 lbs of downward weight, essentially max tongue weight.

The hitch is rated for 5000 lbs with the ball, weight distribution hitch would give you more
