2016 SR5 Double Cab v6 4x4 w/ 37k miles for $30k... good deal?

Greetings, first post here so please direct me to the proper place to post this if I am wrong in the wrong place.

Began browsing for trucks recently, and obviously Tacomas are lauded for holding value and their superb reliability. I have recently stumbled across a "sale price" of $29,980 at a local dealership (Midwest) for a 2016 SR5 Double Cab v6 4x4 with 37k miles on it.

My rationale is that I was planning on getting mine "blacked out" and it is the color I want (black) and has black rims, as well as remote keyless entry and step assists for front and rear seats. It is essentially stocked with everything I am looking for, and feels like a match made in heaven. I don't really care to upgrade to the sport or offroad options, and the 2016 still gets me into that 3rd gen. window.

For reference, another dealership nearby has a black 2016 SR5 Double Cab v6 4x4 with 21k miles on it for $30,350, but does not have the blacked out wheels or added features of the aforementioned truck. Is this a better deal?

I'm just looking for some guidance here, maybe some tips as to how to negotiate if possible. Feel free to call me an idiot if this is a dumb question; I'm in the market for my first car. Thanks in advance.

I got my SR5 for around 31k 2 years ago with 12 miles on it.

Tacomas hold their value well, but I think you've probably got another $1000 worth of wiggle room to haggle.

I didn't get remote start, though.

SR5 gets you a lot of truck for the money so don't worry about that vs OR/Sport.

The only way to really tell if it is a good deal is to search around dealers in your area and see what comparable inventory they have. I do this whenever I car shop and it helps make everything go smoother because if they are high on the price you have some ammo to negotiate with.

Call your local toyota dealership and ask for the fleet manager or use the costco deal program and see what a new one would run. I'm guessing it won't be much more than the used one.

You should be able to get a new one for for under 33k, that means full warranty and you'd be most likely the first person to fart in the drivers seat.

Plus the free service, better interest rate and all the other good shit that comes with buying a new truck.

$30k for a 2016 w/ 27k miles. No thanks. For a couple grand more, you can get a brand spankin new SR5. Better yet, for the same amount, get a new SR.

Unfortunately its near impossible to find 4x4 SRs in my neck of the woods. I'd love to have one someday.

I paid 32k for mine 2 years ago and have almost 28k on mine and you probably have some room to negotiate like Dirty Harry said...there are a lot of used ones on the lot down here though, probably about 15-20 so maybe even more since I did an analysis on KBB/NADA and they said about 26-28k.

Brandy new 2018 is somewhere around 33k depending on options. I certainly wouldnt want someone elses 37k miles worth of ass stank on my seats for only 3k savings.

You could even lease a brand new one for zero down and somewhere around 380-400 a month and buy it out at the end for 25-26k which still seems like a better deal than getting this used one.

Go new. 37k miles for $30k for a used one with the wheel you like? No logic. Now $24k for 37k miles and the wheels you like with bumper to bumper warranty, better logic. You just never know what history 37k miles on a car may have. For the dealer price, best to just go buy a new one and build it up to your liking.

For a point of reference... '17 TRD Sport MT with 14 miles, paid around $37k

OP, like others have said you can do a lot better. If you are not in a hurry start emailing dealers around you. It takes only a bit of effort to do. I went that route and paid $32,063 for my 2018 DCLB SR5 4x4 (4K exact off msrp). This was in December 2017 when the 2018’s literally just started to arrive, too. It had 2 miles on it.

Late to the party but figured I would chime in since my wife and I were shopping around for used Tacomas, we quickly discovered that for just a couple thousand more we could get a brand new one. We ended up with a 2018 SR5 4x4 DCSB with a few add ons for just over $33,000. I figure a couple of thousand dollars extra to go from something with 30k+ miles down to something in double digits miles was well worth it.
