    Hi all,

Just wanted to make a new post to discuss these two options. I've decided an off-road is too expensive and I won't be needing 4x4 so I can save money there.

I'm looking at these two trucks.

    https://www.hendricktoyotanorthchar...20-toyota-tacoma-sr5-201453-3tmaz5cn9lm131573

    https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/1329643

I can get the Limited with 13k miles on Carvana for 30,400 out the door and I'm still talking with some dealers about the new 2020 SR5. I can get the SR5 for 31k to 32k out the door.

I like the limited because it has all the features inside but it still doesn't have 4x4 which seems less appealing but everything else on it is nice. Also doesn't have power seats or apple car play but it does have the JBL and leather.

Would the limited be worth getting over the new SR5 for a couple grand less or is the new SR5 something you'd all pretty much take over the low mile Limited?

I plan to add new tires and maybe just swap the wheels with TRD pro wheels and tires and do a grill swap on the SR5. The limited I'm not sure what I would end up doing. I might do the same on that one or I might just keep it like it is.

    Thanks for the help!

For me it would come down to do you want a factory warranty (I'm to the point I would after driving older cars the past decade), if the features of the Limited outweigh the features of the SR5 to you (to me they wouldn't comparing a 2016 vs 2020, would be different if it was a 2019 or earlier), and APR on the loan if the OTD prices are about equal. The features are personal preference. Also some people don't like the TSS and other "nanny systems" they're putting in newer vehicles (the 2016 doesn't have these).

I don't care for sunroofs and you can always change the seats to leather and the stereo system in the 2020 if you don't like it. I also keep my vehicles for 5+ years and plan to keep my Tacoma for the same.

Do you plan on keeping the truck for many years?

I don’t buy used vehicles by choice, but I also keep them until they are ready for the scrap yard.

Anybody in the market for a new vehicle right now can probably get a very good deal with a little effort, not sure about the used market.

    Good luck whatever you decide.

You make a good point. Factory warranty to me does make me feel better after the past couple used cars or even new that I've owned but I was hoping a Tacoma would be more reliable but I know any vehicle can have an issue.

It's bad enough mentioning a Sport around here let alone a Limited .

In my opinion that's an awful lot of money for a 4 year old truck with no 4x4. It's better to wait to find a good deal than to settle for something right away that you're not entirely happy with. But....if you like it, you should get it

That's true. I am pretty happy with the SR5 model I'm looking at. I think if I could get that one for 31k OTD that would be something I wouldn't mind doing. It doesn't have 4x4 but I don't really see any 4x4s that I can get for 31k OTD. I do see some cheaper 2wd off roads but it doesn't seem anyone is wanting to go down that much on Tacomas. Oddly the ones I've been to seem pretty busy right now even with the Virus going on.

I dont know if things are different in South Carolina but I know in Virginia dealerships are really hurting and some are giving 14-16% off MSRP. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get an sr5 4x4 in the range you're looking for. Heck I bet you could get a TRD Offroad bare bones for around 30-31 right now, who knows.

Yeah I'm not sure but it seems like they are getting bought up around here.

Toyota North Charlotte just totally quit responding to me and said they were busy when I called over the weekend so that's the dumbest thing ever but I've known dealers to do that a lot.

I was looking at this one but this dealer doesn't want to deal at all or even respond.

being someone that keeps vehicles 10 years now I'd go with the 2020 if you can live without the luxury features of the limited. I think that is a lot for a 4 year old truck and think Carvana is always a bit overpriced too. Carvana does have a leg up with being all online in this current situation I suppose. being 4x2 is probably not a big deal in the south but it is here in PA. You can't get a new truck without 4x4 off a lot new, can't order one without a 50% deposit so I'm told.

I'm planning to get an SR5 4x4 myself, I don't need the stuff in the other upper trims even after 10 years with the limited trim in my jeep. I really don't want a sunroof after the leaks I delt with. I'm just holding out till I have at least $12k to put down, I'm getting close but Rona has impacted my saving plan a little.

For a truck without 4x4 that limited should be more like $24K.

Go with the 4x4 you will retain more at resale.

I am on my way to a local dealership right now with my son who is shopping for a car.

They are almost shut down for almost a month now- all business is by appointment only.

They were pretty easy to work with when we bought my wife’s Sienna back in October-

maybe shoot them an e-mail if you see something you like asking for the internet price, just for your own information.

    https://www.dchfreeholdtoyota.com/new-inventory/index.htm?model=Tacoma&lastFacetInteracted=

Again, I don’t think there has been a better time to make a deal than right now for the last 10+ years.

    Go get em...

Seems I can only find a used 2016 in my price range.

    https://www.lowcountryvw.com/invent...d-offroad-4wd-4d-double-cab-5tfcz5an4gx040139

This one seems nice but it's a 2016 again. Seems to be the fully loaded off road one but I don't care for the sunroof. I'm 6'2 so hopefully wouldn't be an issue.
It has a little lift which I don't care for but seems nice enough. It's the color and pretty much everything I wanted. Only thing is the year really and seems a bit pricey.

Personally, I'd go new SR5 4x4. Even if it's a couple grand more, you'll get that back easily on the back end. Two wheel drive trucks sell much worse second hand, no matter where you are.

Plus look at it this way, in two years a 2020 will only be two years old and only have the miles you drove it. That 2016 will be six years old already.
