I've seen a fair amount of threads on the lack of a gas cap holder for our Taco's. Technically we can hang the cap by the door latch, order a Honda stick on holder, etc. Regardless, these solutions were not working for me and on a 30K+ truck we should not have to resort to something you'd get / do on a YUGO.

I purchased a new STANT 41003 Gas cap from ebay for $8.99 delivered to my door.

As expected, it did not fit in my truck. So I modified the "thread" feature that is molded into it, removing the area in red with a razor blade. Took 10 seconds.

It then screwed into my Taco, and has gone through a fill up and few days of driving without throwing a code.

Hope this helps some of the other OCD owners out there like myself.

You know, I don't usually complain about little annoyances like no gas cap holder, but I'm surprised the gas cap door isn't lockable and/or only open with a gas door release in the cabin. People can be shady sometimes...

Most vehicles nowadays have anti-siphoning devices built into the fuel inlet hose, I'd assume our trucks have a device to prevent theft. Typically it looks like a ball and spring somewhere in the body of the hose.

Which may be true, but how do you prevent shady people from pouring stuff into the tank?

    Gun or killer dog.

I have been around a fair time and have never, nor have I had someone I know, had anything poured into their tanks that I'm aware of. I'm sure it happens, don't get me wrong, but you'd have to have someone with a deep hatred on you to do that. Not something I worry about.

everyone keeps talking about not having a gas cap holder. it's not true. we have one, it's the latch. i felt like a damn fool when someone put up this pic and i tried it. sometimes the solutions are too easy and right in front of you. but i'm still liking this Stant cap... i may pick one up myself.

I would be leery of water getting in my gas tank with those Stant gas caps. After I wash my truck I always open the fuel door and dry the water that gets past the fuel door. What is stopping it from going in your gas tank? All you have with those caps is a plastic flipper covering a hole in your gas cap..

subbed for longer term outcome. Had a couple of 150 rentals the past month and both had a cap like this, seems like a good idea.

I'm no expert but I'm gathering you don't want fumes to be leaving the tank either. Does this device prevent that? I would be weary for such a cheap price to be able to do that.

Yeah man, I just hook it onto the door latch. Been working great for 20k miles.

Figured it out first fill up, but I was advanced as a child.

I don't get the locking gas cap, around here they just puncture your plastic tank and take what they need. Even then, I've only seen it happen once.
