Mist probably has 2 speeds. Mist and monsoon.

Variable rate has whatever the normal settings are, 4 I think. Intermittent, variable being keywords.

You should say hey in the local threads. There is a good group in our area.

Also I'm the only 2.7 I think. We could be super bros.

Thanks for this review! I'm leaning towards getting the SR 4x4, and I really prefer an access cab over the double cab, but I was lead to believe that the 4-cylinder was awful and that I would have to go with the double cab V6 to get a decent vehicle.

Honestly I do not need a fast vehicle. I have driven plenty of cars over the years that had 4 cylinders, and I don't mind having to floor it to get the engine going. People seem to think it's bad for the engine if you get the revs up high, but it's not. I don't intend to tow anything, so as long as I can pass someone on the highway if need be and get up the occasional steep hill without struggling, then it's fine.

I think the truck in your picture, in white with the black alloy wheels and some nice AT tires would look awesome.

You'll be fine with the 2.7. Unless the new truck is 1000 lbs heavier than the previous. I have a DCSB 2.7 auto Prerunner and love it.
Only time it isn't great is loaded up with people and gear for a week and I'm at 7k feet elevation, driving up sustained, steep grades at freeway speeds.

Even then I don't hate it.

Just get an SR 4WD, put in front and rear ARB Air Lockers, lift it, and have 35's. You are all good to go. No need to fork out extra $$$$ for a TRD version.

According to the spec sheet, the 2016 Access Cab 4x4 with the 2.7 is 4220 lbs. According to the Toyota website, your DCSB 2.7 Prerunner is 3890 lbs. So we are talking 330 lbs more, but here is a comparison of the 4 speed auto in the 2nd gen vs. the new 6 speed auto in the 3rd gen (in bold):

    Axle Ratio: 4.1 , 4.3

    Gear Ratios
    1st gear: 2.80 , 3.60
    2nd gear: 1.53 , 2.09
    3rd gear: 1.00 , 1.49
    4th gear: 0.71 , 1.00
    5th gear: none , 0.69
    6th gear: none , 0.58

And here are the gear ratios multiplied by the axle ratios:

    1st gear: 11.48 , 15.48
    2nd gear: 6.27 , 8.99
    3rd gear: 4.10 , 6.41
    4th gear: 2.91 , 4.30
    5th gear: none , 2.97
    6th gear: none , 2.49

So between the increased axle ratio and the increased gear ratios, in 1st-3rd gears, acceleration off the line should be improved by a noticeable amount. On the highway you probably have to drop to 4th gear to get decent passing power.

That SR looks really nice.. But then they usually do.. Looks a million times better than the non color matched bumper versions do..

Just remember that what ever the 4.30 provided as a benefit is out the window if you go to plus tire sizes.:help::turtleride:

I like the looks of it,
Just reminds me of the 4-runners, and that has grown on me also.

I truly feel the old 4-spd auto was a great trans back in the late 90s maybe. The 2.7 is a little workhorse of an engine.

This 6-speed is the way to go with new gearing and it's letting the engine work in a better rpm almost all the time. Add the Utility Package option to delete back seats and Toyota delivers a truck that would be close to the same price as the regular cabs would have been. That's why I traded my 2013 RC in for the 2015 AC I have.

I am not in a position to trade soon, if anything I'll need a DC but this is a good looking truck.

The wheel options have been changed to match the lines of the front and rear end better.

At least I can say "Hey, I have 2016 Sexy Steel wheels on mine," lol...

Thanks for posting this info. I was looking for this data last night, but searching from my phone made it challenging. Could you dig up the 2nd gen 5-speed ratios to compare against the 3rd gen 5MT and 6AT for us? The biggest issues with the 4-speed auto was at 35-45mph the truck would lug around in 3rd gear under 2k rpm (way outside of the torque curve) and at 65-70mph if you needed to pass under full throttle the trans would down shift to 2nd gear causing the engine to jump well north 4.5k rpm, basically the engine would go from cruising at 2250 rpm to over revving in passing gear.

We are in the same situation.....we who appreciate the effort but are in no position to buy. I keep my trucks till they are about 10 years old......the previous being a 2004. So, my 2015 will be with me till we are complaining about the ten year old gen 3. Then I'll buy one..

According to thread link below 5MT ratios remain the same from 2005-2016, except the axle ratio is now 3.91 instead of 4.10.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-gear-ratios-at-awesome-mt-now-with-double-overdrive.387347/

    Here's a chart I put together to compare 2nd and 3rd Gen I4 Prerunner/4x4 Transmission ratios.

According to the OP's picture of the SR's Sticker, Int. Wipers are standard. It's listed in the "Interior" column.
