Looks AI generated. No Toyota logo. No TSB. Not official looking. Good luck and hope it is real but....

No issues with my 2021 A-Cab, I wonder why only DC are included.

I saw this on Reddit and had the same suspicions, but if people actually received documents good for you. Finally, recognizing the Tacoma paint is just like every other Toyota.

Yup. I just got my letter from Toyota today as well. Mine IS peeling on the doors badly but Toyota had just agreed to repaint on a customer "good will" agreement last month after complaining to the Dealership. Happy to get the repairs done some time in 2024. I can't imagine how busy all the body shops will be repainting white Taco's nationwide! Years of work ahead for them.

    add one to the list!

I'm not against throwing some vinyl wrap over this section for the time being, but I don't want Toyota to kick back and say the wrap is what caused it if they are going to repaint it.

But also, not against throwing on a white wrap and leaving it on, either.

I have had two cars in my life that had factory defects that the manufacturer did not want to fix. The first was a leaky 2005 Wrangler that I sicked a lawyer on. I scored eighteen grand for my aggravation and I only paid twenty-four grand for the Jeep to begin with. Next was my white 2014 Challenger R/T. It was white and the body had ripples in the doors and quarter panels. I threatened lemon law and they replaced most of the body panels and repainted the whole car. I purchased that car in the rain is why I did not notice. If my white paint on my 22 access cab falls off I will add Toyota to the lineage of manufacturers that I have stuffed my foot up their ass! Persistence is what pays!

You're going to have an uphill battle if it comes to it. They likely figured out what the defect was, and were able to contain what lots were involved. Double cabs have rear doors, you don't. As for the fenders, no idea, maybe different build lines for the ACs that weren't affected.

Whatever the root cause is, Toyota knows it, that's why they're able to claim it was only DCs at this point.

It was an uphill battle both previous times. Neither past instance was a recall either. I might not win but I will still stuff my foot up there ass until I lose! :D

Given where it is on my doors, I want to throw something like this on. But I don't want them to then go "OH, the wrap caused YOUR flaking, too bad, no paint for you neener neener"

    https://www.amazon.com/VViViD-Reali...dp/B00YLFQ7W0?smid=A10111992WJRYRFBZH9IS&th=1

Chuck that on as a psuedo PPF type of thing, wrap the exposed metal. I don't care about looks as much, thing's a daily driven woods truck, if that level of abuse/care makes sense. But exposed metal in the northeast - NO THANK YOU!

I think they try to limit the recalls tho. Probably why MY23 was left off the recall, but I doubt that they actually fixed the 23's white paint when manufacturing. I have a MY22 and checked toyota.com/owners and typed in my VIN and this TSB did not come up for me for my white paint... so I'm not sure if I'm going to get batches at a later time or at all. I don't have any peeling paint that I've noticed yet tho.

The letter that was posted is just that "A recall is coming". You won't see a recall on Toyota yet.

Look at the wording, they say something like "If you paid to fix already, we'll pay you back, but if you pay to fix it AFTER receiving this letter, we won't pay you back, you have to wait for us to do it now". That was like 4 months ago. I got one too. So, now we just have to sit and wait until they decide to start fixing them in a recall.

Good catch. Interesting that they would only send out a warning to some of us 040 paint codes and not all at once with the warning? I understand staggering the actual TSB so we aren't flooding dealerships, but I don't understand why the warning of the TSB is happening now.

Because if it's bad enough that I go out and get it patched up before Toyota does it, AFTER having gotten that letter, they don't reimburse.

Also worth noting - it's white. That's fleet color. So now fleets who may do their OWN paint work internally won't be able to recoup those costs, and don't want to be driving around with flaking paint reflecting their business image.

Right, so why didn't I get one yet? Are they waiting on an arbitrary amount of time from the year it was made, so older trucks are getting them first while newer trucks are not getting the warning letter?
