I had mine installed Jan/18 Part number starts with 911 , I think the recall one starts with 913 as most were pulled from dealer inventories when recall first came out and cut cords till a replacement was available.

So I never got around to sorting this out last winter (warmed up pretty steadily and I didn't end up using the block heater)......but now this week it's getting back into the crazy cold temps and so I thought I'd start back up trying to figure out if I have a pre- or post- recall block heater.

Had to start over with the dealer here in Minneapolis and then Toyota Canada. They both told me the same "I can't see anything on the computer" thing because Toyota USA can't see Canadian parts and recalls and Toyota Canada can't see American parts / recalls / trucks.

Fine. I just want somebody to tell me the part numbers so I can do the figuring out myself.

Ended up calling a dealer in Toronto and talking it through with a guy in Parts. He was able to confirm that my block heater (PU-140-00905) is indeed the RECALLED part.......the replacement part is PK-5A408J05. He also told me that sometimes the computer system adds things like -US1 at the end of the part number and that it helps dealers on the other side of the border if you just drop that bit.

So my new course of action is to call the dealer here in Minneapolis tomorrow and walk them through getting me the new replacement part since I can now give them the exact part number. We'll see how it goes. They initially told me it'd be covered since it was a recall, but now I'm guessing it won't be since neither Toyota USA nor Toyota Canada is helping me out.

Worst case I'll order it myself or drive up to Canada and buy one in person. I just want it done right.

So how do you know if your truck has a heater installed?

Should have the plug-in spot on the left side of the bumper.

that's right, somewhere on the left side fo the truck you'll find the plug-in end that your extension cord would go in.

No trucks come with them from the factory (Toyota uses a 3rd party manufacturer......not even the dealer in Toronto could tell me who that is). USA trucks usually don't come with it from the dealer whereas my understanding is most (if not all) Canadian trucks come with it as a dealer-installed option.....that's why Toyota Canada was involved with the recall. Toyota USA doesn't even have a real part number they can order.....my dealer had to get it from Canada.

I was at the dealership in Anchorage last week. They still hadn’t sourced replacement parts yet, so if you find anything out about new, non-recalled parts please do share!

Did anybody on this thread figure out more about the oem block heater and the recall and what not?

I purchased a block heater oem from an Toyota dealer that has a parts store on eBay. And it was only 202 watts. And supposedly he was saying this is cause of the recall and they don’t offer the 400 watt anymore. Can anyone confirm or invalidate this?

Sorry, but I have no idea. I still don't have a replacement block heater for my Tacoma.

I appreciate the response anyways. Been trying to decide on wether I should just bite the bullet and install it or return it and keep looking. But I plugged it in just to see how well it would work and had no idea how fast and hot that thing got. It must get into the triple digits. I only had it plugged in for about less then a min and I couldn’t touch it for an hour or so until it cooled down. So I guess even though it’s 202 watts not 400 it still pumps some power. So I guess I’m just gunna install it and take some temp measurements with a laser temp gun and check the readings on my ultra gauge before plugging in and then again before starting and see if it’s worth using.
