For the past two years I have been towing a travel trailer with my 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO. My current trailer dry weight is 3800 lbs and gross is 5500. I do put 2 mountain bikes in the truck bed with a half bed full of wood. I live in the mountains of Pa and haven’t had any issues with towing so far. I also use a weight distribution hitch. I was looking at another travel trailer that is dry weight of 5000 lbs and gross of 6500. Only time I ever tow with the tanks full is when I get to the camp ground and fill up. Would this trailer be too heavy for my Taco even with a WDH?

Well considering the tow capacity of a V6 truck with the tow package is 6500 lbs, I'd say yes it's too heavy. Whatever is part of the payload also counts towards the number. Adding wood, full tank of gas, bikes, supplies, and whoever is riding in the cab and you'll be well over 6500lbs.

Will it tow? Yeah. But I wouldn't want to put my truck through that. Could also screw you in an accident.
