I started having transmission problems a couple months ago at 43,000 miles. I would give the truck gas from a stop or low speed (15mph) and it would rev up to 3500 RPMs, I'd feel a thunk, the truck would jerk and the tires would chirp as it slammed into gear. During the revving, it was like the truck was in neutral. I took it to the dealership and they said it was 2 qts. a low on transmission fluid. They said it came that way from the factory. So id driven 43000 miles 2 qts. low. They filled it and said the problem was fixed. I took it home and it was better but still happened at least once every time I drove to or from work 8 miles each way). I took it back to the dealership, they drove it 40 miles and couldn' reproduce the problem. I picked it up and its still doing the same thing. Has anyone experienced this in a 2015 Tacoma? If so, do you know what caused? I appreciate any insight into this!

Sounds like it's messed up permanently. I'd tell them to keep it until they can reproduce the problem. Toyota should be on the hook for the damage.

On my 2016 which was overfilled with 2+ quarts, I opened a case with Toyota and they gave me a 7 year, 75k mile platinum warranty. They offered that or like a $500 voucher for service. If you can replicate the issue, then drive around the dealership while it's doing it, ask an advisor to get you a tech to ride with you to verify the concern. I've had to do this a few times and always ended up with the result I wanted.

Call Toyota's Customer Service number. It's in your owners manual. Open an issue. The dealer is going to do nothing. Toyota needs to take responsibility.

Doesnt that truck have a 5 year 60,000 powertrain warranty?

Does it do it from a complete stop, or just when you slow to 15mph? How hard are you getting back on the throttle? When you slow to a “rolling stop” and then take off again the transmission has to figure out if it needs to be in 1st or 2nd gear, and if you punch it too hard it can feel abrupt when it makes the change.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! Over the last month I opened a case with Toyota and they said I had to work with my dealership. I took a video and sent it to the service manager. He said they had to experience it in person. I reproduced the problem for him, then a service tech, then a service tech from "headquarters" in Cincinnati. They said the behavior was "normal." After not backing down (and maybe mentioning "litigation" helped) they said they'd run a few more diagnostics which found nothing and then decided to drop the pan to see if there were metal shavings in it. Next thing I knew, I got a call from the General manager at the dealership saying they were replacing the transmission. Couldn't get an explanation as to what the problem turned out to be, but I'm happy with the outcome. Looks like being stubborn and not giving up paid off.

Glad everything worked out! It seems to be hit and miss with dealerships. The closest one to me where I got my first car from is pretty much worthless, but the one an hour away will pretty much bend over backwards to help people and make sure they have a good experience with their Toyota.

Same thing happen to today. Apparently warranty covers up to 60k miles an I’m at 68k. Per the dealership I would need a new transmisoson and looking at 5500. They advised to contact Toyota directly and they were going to contact them too and see what they can do. The advisor said my transmission had less than 3qts of transmission fluid. No leaks no nothing. I couldn’t do anything to prevent it apparently it’s a rare case. I have to wait till Monday to contact them

They ended up dropping the pan and it was filled with large metal shavings. Once the dealership saw them, the quickly agreed to replace the transmission. So PUSH for them to drop the pan to see if there are metal shavings.
