ok ok I know it's not a Tacoma but tw is awesome and always loves helping me. Here's a little story and I need some major help!!

Found a set of 1 year old 20x9 fuel hostage rims with 305/55/20 nitto terra grapplers. 8k miles on them perfect shape. No scrapes no curb rash perfect rims and tires. The guy had them on a 2013 f150 traded the truck in for a car and wanted to sell the rims. Of crouse ford changed lug threads so his aftermarket lug nuts wouldn't work on my 15. I called summit racing since they are a fuel dealer and they said I need gorilla lug nuts. Everything fits great , look bad ass!!

BUT, here's where the problems come in. On fuels website they say use the stock torque specs. Ok that's 150 foot pounds on a f150. The previous owner of the rims said the same thing. So I started to tighten them with my brand new snap on torque wrench. Something didn't feel right, they wouldn't tighten. I went a little more and still wouldnt tighten up.it almost felt like threads on the new lug nuts were stripping out. So I take the lug off and the damn lug nuts mushroomed my new rim to the point where it cracked!! Holy shit. Brand new rims basically I inspected every other hole to just make sure the previous owner didn't damage them. So wtf do I do!?,? Please help

150 ft lbs sounds like way too much. I don't remember my F150s being that tight. I thought it was somewhere around 80 ft lbs but it's been almost 5 years since I had one.

Double checked in the owners manual. Ever since like 2000 it has been 150 since they switched to 14mm studs.

Maybe i have been miss informed on the years. But in my owners manual it says 150. That seems crazy ass tight. Maybe the fuel rims aren't meant for that tight. I sent them an e mail so we shall see

The lugs probably aren't the right type for the rims

Pretty sure you need different lugs

That's what I thought. But I called summit racing who sells fuel rims. Who are usually pretty good on getting stuff right but snything could happen. That's what I'm betting on but still kinda pissed off and worried

Don't drive around that way. I've seen that happen before, where the lugs weren't right and the rims wouldn't tighten. How bad is the rim? And what did summit say?

just seen you said 14 mm studs... is that for the 5 lug light duty f-150? my 01 has nowhere near 14 mm studs... 11-12 would be my guess on my studs so may be different. and 150 ft lbs is right in line with that size for torque specs on bolts. I twisted one stud off mine after a wheel bearing swap before my wrench hit the 100 ft lbs I go with.

No way in hell in driving it. I have a daily driver lol I just made them just tight enough to pull the truck out. Summit was no help at all. They were like well somethings wrong u should contact fuel.... Like thanks for no help what so ever.

And nope. She's a 6 lug. The fuel rims are cut for 6x135 and 6x5.5. I mean my dads f350 has 150 foot pound studs. I think it's a little crazy in a 150. I just don't want a wheel coming off. Now that's an issue

Rim isn't bad. I saw it start to mushroom before it cracked all the way threw. I'm almost positive summit screwed me and sent the wrong shit

What you need is a cone seat M14 x 1.5 set of lug nuts. Everything I've ever been told is "torque to factory specs"
If the gorilla lug nuts are a 60 degree cone seat they're correct. Might have just been a bad nut. Call them and ask for a replacement set of lug nuts

They sent you new nuts? I assumed you were using the factory lugs

No u can't use the factory lug nuts. U need aftermarket ones with a spline shank. So a normal hex head won't work cause the clearance between the rim and lug nut are so close. Yes the gorilla set are a 60 degrees cone style lug nut. That's why I'm so confused on what's going on and why it messed up the rim
