2015 4.0 Secondary filter screen inside main air filter box

Maybe a stupid question, but I searched and couldn't find. What is the extra filter looking screen inside of the main air filter box on a 2015 V6 4.0?

 

its a charcoal filter. Its meant to capture fuel vapors from exiting the intake manifold after shutdown so they dont enter the atmosphere.

It does NOT restrict flow to the motor, there is no need to remove it, and if you live in CA and have a dick of a smog check guy he will fail you if you do not have it.

 

Thank you nd4! I wasn't LOOKING to take it out... I got in a hurry... only the 2nd time I've replaced my air filter, got careless and started pulling that out, so now I need to replace that. Having the oil changed at the dealer in the morning, just trying to figure out what I was looking at if I should try to get one or just let them do it.

 

Lots of members pulled then why I have no idea, but search around the threads should still exist

 

Dyno numbers prove that removing it doesn't work.
