I was offered a 2014 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4x4 with 192k miles. (Supposively freeway miles) for $15,000. Is this a good offer for a 14 taco 4x4 with that many miles? And how many miles would this truck possibly reach?

If it’s in good shape I don’t see a problem with that price

If it has been maintained well and the rust isn't bad, that is a good price. Especially if it hasn't been modified with a bunch of wiring or cheap suspension parts (including a 6" lift where the front crossmember has been cut up).

Yes, the rust isn't bad. The truck has always been maintained well. And no modifications were every done to it. Its in stock condition. How many miles do you reckon I can get out of it, without having to do any major repairs, or an engine swap?

You’re going to have repairs at that age, regardless, good news is that they’re easy to do, water pump at some point (may as well do thermostat and serpentine belt, they’re all right there, alternator possibly…
Engine replacement, no, it will run forever if properly maintained.
Post up some pics, undercarriage too.
All of that being said, you’re looking at regular maintenance guaranteed, oil change, to include front & rear diffs and transfer case, spark plugs, clean maff, replace PCV valve, clean throttle body, possibly brakes…. Again, all easy to do. Of course he may have all of these things done already.

Have you seen how much similar mileage/year trucks are selling for? I see plenty of 1st gen ('95-'04) Tacos in my area with similar mileage listed for $10-15 even 20k. Seems like a very fair price assuming it's in good condition, no rust, etc.

Possibly the truck could reach over 1,000,000 miles. Or it could possibly fall apart as you're driving away from the deal. Nobody knows.

Plenty of high mileage Tacos out there. I'm at like 270k, closer to 290k if you account for tire size difference.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
No one can answer that. Could be 2, could be 200,000. That's going to depend on how well it was maintained to start with.

With that mileage and age, I would guess that certain things may come up in the next few years depending on where you are located and how worn the items are now.
    • Body mounts / radiator/core support mounts
    • Steering Rack bushings
    • Fuel filter/pump (maybe on the pump if you are risk of being stranded)
    • AUTOMATIC Transmission fluid change & filter screen change/clean
    • Suspension
    • CV if boots are cracked / torn (unlikely, but possible)
Really, not much out of the ordinary. My 2003 Tacoma had 165k when I bought it and sold it with 240k in 2020. Still had original body mounts, rack bushings (but was on the list to replace if I had kept it), 40k on the new suspension and original CV boots (one just started to leak a bit).

I paid $11,000 for my '99 with 114,000 miles on it in '07. 269,000 miles now.
Replaced power steering pump, front brakes, battery and clutch so far. She has an oil leak now that will have to be addressed sometime.
    Still running good.

maintenance is the key! Also, how many prior owners? How was it driven? A properly driven and maintained taco can last a long time !

Thank you. If I do purchase this vehicle. I will definitely change some things in this list. As a habit, I will probably change the air filter first, as well as the spark plugs.

Plenty of step by step tutorials on TW and YouTube. Hold on to this, it will be of great help along the way.
