Hello taco owners! I’m currently looking to buy a Tacoma and came across a 2013 Tacoma double cab Baja edition with 71k miles and has some money in mods. The truck is at a dealership and is getting ready to hit the sales line I was able to get a peek at it via photos from a uncle that works at the dealership. The truck is selling for 25900 plus tax and fees and my taxes are Los Angeles county taxes so it’s high. Is that a high price for that truck or am I getting a deal? Thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, seeing that I’m in that market for a taco truck

That's a little high but with the age and mileage you won't find one with any less miles.. overall from pictures it looks worth it. I'd be curious to see if all maintenance was done properly.. if it's at dealership you might could get them down some.. I'd feel comfortable at 20-22k

I feel it's a little high myself that’s why I haven’t pulled the trigger but according to my uncle who’s the used car sales manager at that dealership is saying that’s the best he can do and my credit union is saying it’s blue books for 27760. My uncle is saying he spent 2200 towards safety and service so price wise that’s the best he can do. I’m seeing 2016 trd off-road 4x4 with 74k-85k mileage for 30k OTD making me wonder if I should just get that instead

 I bought my Forester from a "no haggle" Autonation, and was trying to get them to haggle their meh price into something, anything, better... the sales manager busted out their "invoice" from service to get it sellable. They "spent" like $2k on it... that bought a detail, an oil change (with a $2 filter and incorrect oil), cheapo engine & cabin air filters, and a rear pad slap with $20 pads. It was the most ridiculous fake markup I've ever seen.

The takeaway is every department of the dealership tries to fawk all the other ones to make their manager look better. Parts department screws service & used, service department screws used cars... actually I think the used car department is basically everyone else's whipping boy.

Definitely get the 2013 over a 2016. For the money, the 2013 here has more bells and whistles and significantly higher reliability. The 2016s, being the first of their body style have/had a significant amount of issues you may encounter.

I agree with the bells and whistles but isn’t the 2013 also a upgraded first year of the 2013-2015?

For 10K more you can get a brand new truck with a decent warranty.

    I wouldn't burn that 30K on a 6 year used truck.

It’s more like 27770k OTD but I’m having a hard time wrapping my head on it as well even at 27770k I guess I’ll take it out on a test drive and go from there

Personally i think the graphics down the bed are pretty cheesy.

Whats up with the 2,400 dollar smog sublet? Are they saying they had to spend 2,400 to get it to pass inspection? Id ask to see an itemized list of that 2,400 dollar bill

Wtf does this even mean? Is ur uncle trying to squeeze you? No way they “spent” anywhere close to $2k on a trade in. Just because they might charge joe from the street $2k for a smog check (or whatever the hell is on that screenshot, again, i don’t understand it) doesn’t mean that’s what they spent. More often than not a trade in gets run thru the car wash, a rushed vacuum and interior mopping, and - if you’re lucky - an oil change with the shittiest cheapest oil they can find and wrong filter or no filter change at all. Ready for the sales floor!!

Especially in SoCal where Tacos basically sell themselves and they don’t need to wiggle in the price. Someone WILL buy it, and quick.

It's not a risk. It is a new vehicle fully covered by warranty, dealer support, and aftermarket support. If I'm spending north of 25K, I'm going to go with new and known issues vs old and unknown issues.

Not directed at you, but the irrational fear of something new(3rd gen Tacomas) in this forum is comical.

Well, this point of view makes sense too.. depends on how fast you need a truck.

OPs question was "am i getting a deal". Probably not a lot of "good deals" to be had in Socal on a fairly limited edition tacoma. The dealer knows they have the advantage

He’s saying they also spent on new tires and brakes
