I am a newcomer to the Tacoma world. Ive previously had a 2001 jeep cherokee that was relatively built and saw a lot of offroading.
This is my 2013 tacoma regular cab 2.7L 5 speed 4x4. I put on 265 75 16 falken wildpeaks recently. I am now looking to lift it and stick to this tire size.
It is a daily driver which I use to commute on the freeway to work but will see alot of moderate trails in the local socal mountains for camping trips.
I would like to lift it approximately 3 inches all around and increase carrying capacity since I usually load around 600 pounds of gear into the bed for backcountry camping in the Sierras.

I have pretty much decided on doing medium duty OME dakar leafs for the rear to achieve this carrying capacity.

Ive done alot of research on the full OME kit as well but have began to steer away from this setup because of the dreaded clunking noise and stiff ride in the regular cabs.

Im considering doing a Fox 2.0 or 2.5 coilover setup paired with the Dakars.
I will most likely be doing total chaos or light racing UCAs at the same time.
Any recommendations on this setup or any others are much appreciated.

    Thanks!

My 2013 has the OME 885x springs and nitro shocks along with some add-a-leafs in the rear. It also has the LR UCA's and runs on 285/75/16 tires. These were installed by the previous owner but the overall combinations seems to work well. I have 2 smaller boats that I tow with it and it feels fine towing and handles well for daily driving. One of my shocks has the dreaded clunk so I might upgrade them.

I also own a 2013 reg cab 4x4. No lift yet, so I can't give you much advise. I did add headstrongoffroad's 3 leaf AAL as I have a heavy cap + bed platform + camping gear in there all the time and my ass was draggin.
I have given serious thought into getting the Fox 2.0/2.5 setup but haven't found much info on what its like for the reg cab. I'm curious what you would experience if you do end up going this route.

Thanks for the information! Great looking truck. Any regearing to handle the 285s? If not, is there a lot of power loss?
Also, what are you looking at upgrading the nitros too if you do?

Ill let you know if I end up going this route. I have a cousin who works for fox who I plan on getting some information out of before I make my decision. If not, ill most likely end up with the full ome setup with 885xs and ucas. I just want as quiet and good ride as possible for the daily driving while also being very capable offroad.

I installed the Bilstein 5100 / HD Dakars / OME 884 combination kit from @HeadStrong Off-Road for my 2012 Regular Cab 4X4. Like your setup, I too have the topper in back with camping equipment. This combination works well for what I'm needing.

Ninja Edit: I have zero clunking with the OME equipment.

Thanks for the reply! I really like the look of your setup.
How much lift did the 884s and the dakar HDs get you? Also, what size tires are you running?
Are you still running stock UCAs?

After settling down, I got about 2.5" in the front and 2.75" in the back. The ride is firm and response with the 884s. If I were thinking of swapping out the stock bumper with armor, I'd have chosen the 885. Note that the HD Dakars are similar to the mediums, but they have an extra leaf, which you can remove. If I was unsatisfied with the heavy duty, I could simply just remove that leaf. As is, it works great for the cargo I carry in back; no regrets.

Current tires are 245/75 R16 and look cartoonishly small with the new lift.

Sweet, if you're still on stock UCA were you able to get a good alignment. Seems like this kit might be perfect for my needs.

I'm still on stock UCA's and it's pushing the margins of good alignment. It's still within specs, but just barely.

I was lazy and didn't want to install the UCA's. I'm fine with that decision.

Thanks for all this info, @vaya con tacos. I was looking at more expensive lifts/ coilovers but confident that 5100's will be all the suspension upgrade i'll need.

Im most likely gonna go this route. Now I need to decide whether to go with the 885s or 884s. Same spring rate but about a half an inch difference in height. I would like to do a front bumper/winch in the future but don't know how long until the money is right. Will these springs right the same since they have the same spring rate (590lb) or will the 885s be rougher because of preload?

I'd ask that question in the 2.7 reg cab thread, sure to get some good responses there. I know a lot of those guys are running 884's, but not sure about 885's. I do know that it is STRONGLY discouraged to run 886's on our trucks. I never researched that though.

I went back and forth between the 884's and 885's. Someday I might get fancy bumpers, but that day is not here. Read what others have said in the 2.7 regular cab threads about their 885's. It'll probably keep the front end up at 3" and may run a bit stiffer if you don't have any front armor.

No regearing that I know of. I'm coming from a 2009 Silverado Z71 reg cab with the 5.3 running 35's so it feels like a dog compared to that truck but I have no problem with daily driving or towing. The previous owner did do some trimming around the fender flares and removed the mud flaps and after I adjusted the LR UCA's I'm not getting any rubbing. I haven't taken it offroad so I'm not sure if there will be any slight rubbing. It's a little stiff with the 885's but I had Fox 2.0's on my Silverado with 6" suspension lift and that was really stiff so the Tacoma feels fine. I picked up a pair of 5200's if I decide to swap out the Nitro's.

Here's a picture of my Silverado before it was totaled by someone who ran a stop sign.

Do you have any noticeable drive line vibes with the dakars?

Nope. None. The kit included a OME carrier bearing drop bracket, but it wasn't necessary in my case.

I run Goodyear mt/r’s in 275/70r17 and I hated driving it on the highway, constantly downshifting on hills. I just regeared to 4.88’s and it makes such a big difference. I can start from a stop in 2nd.

As far as price goes, my regear was right at 2k after core return (locker was 550 tho) if I didn’t put a locker in it would’ve been about 1400

Update: I now plan to go with bilstein 6112 up front set on 4th notch to hopefully obtain about 2.75 lift after settling. Heard great reviews on these and the price is pretty good through headstrong. Still deciding between JBA and SPC UCAs.
The rear will get MD dakars with 5100 extended length shocks (b110), and extended brake lines.
Should be ordering the kit in the next couple days and hope to install it around Christmas.
    Will post pics once complete.
