I bought my Tacoma brand new, and just today the 4X4 wheel drive stopped working on it. I looked at the dive shafts on the front axles and everything looked legit. So i think its just an electronic problem with the switch, any how the 4x4 indicator light on the dash keeps flashing and it won't engage and i'm wondering if anyone else here has had this specific problem?

    Seems to be pretty common.

    I have an 18 year old 4runner

and a 3 year old taco

both of them, once in a blue moon, will have an issue with 4x4 blinking like refusing to go back
to 2wd, or refusing to go from 2 to 4wd.... but it goes away on next restart. never worried about it as it
is extremely rare and fixes itself

happened once on trucky and maybe 11 times on the 4runner.

if is happens on trucky and doesn't go away I am gonna pull
the actuator and solder the ears

Well I already got it in the shop. But it always "clunks" into 4x4. But this morning it only started blinking and it's been doing it even in 2wd so I honestly don't know what to think about it. I'm reliant on my 4x4 since I live on a farm though

Is it a 4x4 switch or lever that engages it?

Same thing happened to my 13 AC. The 4x4 won't engage even when it's in 2wd the 4wd indicator blinks sometimes it just randomly stopped and when it did stop I was able to get in to 4wd I took to Toyota and they told me it was my fault because the switch was fried and that it was my fault that I must have gotten it wet and I told them that I wasn't paying for a something that shouldn't happen because of water the switch could get wet with regular driving and so I demanded to talk to the head of the maintenance and they told me they'd call me and they called me later and said they wanted to talk to me long story short they didn't fix it cause I showed interest in buying a 15 DCLB and they gave me a killer deal but the fix would've been around 600 they told me so best of luck to you man

Thank you all for the responses. I don't see how getting a 4x4 could be unforseeable though lol. But hopefully it won't cost me an arm and a leg

The switch in the cab was water damaged? It's a $40 switch and is easy to unplug and install a new one. I would have told them to take a hike. $600 is rape.

My trucks only been through snow and mud. Never deep water. It was also -2 this morning so hopefully it was the cold screwing with the electronics

Read the owners manual. Reverse the truck before trying to put it back into two wheel drive. Thats the easiest stuff to do.
