    Hey all,

I just noticed this area when changing my oil today. Hopefully the pics I uploaded show up. Appears to be a rear main seal leak I think. Any clues on the urgency for this? I haven’t noticed any oil on the ground, but I do street park the truck so I may have missed it. 85k on the odo

    any help would be appreciated

Yep looks to be a rear main. Clean the area and monitor for new leaks/drops

Thanks for the quick reply. Would torquing the bolts back down help at all? Will monitor nonetheless

The only bolts to torque are on the rear seal housing that the seal sits in. The trans has to come down and flywheel removed to even access it. At that point you might as well replace the seal

Try blue devil rear main seal repair will work for a while. I add a bottle every oil change keeps the seal moist

    That’s not a leak
    It’s not even a “weep”
Seen lots of trucks like this.
Mine is the same way.. Maybe a little worse.
    Drive it…….

I agree mines the same way just a smaller area at 161k, been that way since I bought it from my dad at 109k. I wouldn’t worry about it until it starts actually dripping and leaving spots on your driveway.

Yeah I wouldn't sweat that at all, just keep an eye on it and your oil level on the dipstick. I've worked with plenty of friends/family cars and trucks that have leaks worse than that but still don't lose enough oil between changes to even be worth the time or money to replace a harder to access seal like that.

I agree with the others. My rear main seal was leaking. However, I only noticed it after seeing a few drops on ground when I would leave my parking spot every day. Unless you see that, I wouldn't worry about that. It's a pretty expensive repair so I wouldn't rush into it.
