Hello there; I just had my exhaust flange let go on the connection on the passenger side. This connection joins the converter assembly to the pipe that travels back and includes the muffler. This is all stock exhaust. I have done lots of searching on the internet trying to find a quick solution and best pricing. 900 plus seems a bit high for the pipe with one converter located on the drivers side. However I am not trying to cheap out but at the same time do not want to throw money away because in the near future will be doing all the exhaust. During the peak of winter is not the ideal time . Looking for Canadian suppliers , USA would also be a option but need this pipe asap because want to do a 1400 km round trip starting Friday coming but will be parked for 10 days before returning. Any temporary repair ideals would be fine. Thanks for any reply’s.

I would take it to a exhaust shop and have them look. They may be able to weld the pipe or a new piece of pipe in place.

Oh yeah. I’ve used this twice. First time I didn’t pull it tight enough and things rattled apart. Second time it held well.

Using some type of cement may not be suitable because of the connection area. The rear section tend to pull away from the fwd. I am spending hours trying to figure how to get a good new complete exhaust. As of right now I only need the lower left section of pipe to make a good repair. However there is a guy on eBay who has a complete fwd exhaust minus the intermediate and muffler for sale. It is a 304 stainless which is supposed to be the best for my salt environment. Then there are some people who state the 304 ss expands too much compared to the 409 ss which has less mineral additives. Then someone else will claim ( this is by goggling info and following links) steel with aluminium in it is better. So this is my first real major exhaust job in many many years. My truck is 10 years old and that is the oldest truck I have had since my first new Toyota truck in 1985. I did pull the DS header off my 2010 due to a cracked stud. I crawled up under the truck yesterday on snow and removed my temporary repair and used 2 racket straps to pull the intermediate pipe fwd to meet firm with the pipe with the broken flange. It should get me home today. ( 370 km) . Much quieter. The best I can hope for to make a repair so I can do my trip this Friday is to find a new flange or reuse the old and get it tig welded back on. However back to the new 304 ss exhaust. It is missing the upper converters. Do anyone know how this will affect the Eng performance ? Also is the stock exhaust hard to weld or does it have aluminium in it ? Any reply’s appreciated.

If the existing stock pipes are aluminum coated, which I believe they aren’t, there’s no special prep required to weld. As a general rule, running without cats will reduce exhaust flow restrictions. I don’t know if you’ll throw a code due to the o2 sensors reading differently or something. You could fail smog or inspection depending how strict your state is.

Using ratchet straps to hold your exhaust pipes together could get you featured on one of the this just rolled in YouTube videos.

Ok . Thanks. I do not mind codes if the Eng runs well. As for inspections, that would not be a worry in my province yet. Thanks for the reply.

Ha ha. Yes straps are not the best but they have no contact with the exhaust and it is so cold here with wet salty roads that they will not have not have much chance of melting. However I just took it to a garage and they suggested the best was to cut it out and put in a piece of pipe. So for 60 buck or a little more I am going to do that. If I can get thru another month , time will be on my side. I have a back up Corolla car and in mid April it will be safe to take out my 1995 Dodge Ram with the Cummins Eng. By getting another month it will give me time to get all new exhaust and get my skidoo trip at my cottage done. I hope to run this Tacoma for about another 7 years. Funny how I am in my 60,s and it is taking me back to my early 20,s where if the chassis ,box or exhaust was getting bad I would then repair etc. Also I can not reply to thread anymore. Had to type this in my notes, cut and paste.

My son and a buddy are at Deer Lake this week for skidooing. I go west then South up to upper salmon. Got a cottage up there. 638 km from my house but add on some running around and you will be over 1400 km before I get back. Had a muffler shop chop out the 2 flanges and put a piece in. I really wanted to weld a flange back but the guy said the other flange is probably rotted. So that is what they did. 69 bucks tax in and I,m good for 2 years maybe but will have new exhaust long before that. Just a matter of figuring what may be the best.Hard weekend, being in Town and bad exhaust. Not like you will just go in and take a new pipe off the shelve. I would not know of anyone who keeps any parts around anymore. I needed a fwd diff shift motor and the only way I got one at the dealer was because they had one there for another guy who was in no hurry to put it on.

Had the same issue on my 2009. Local shop welded up a new flange in a couple of hours.
