My taco has over 170k miles/275k kms on it now and I am thinking that it's getting close to the point where don't feel comfortable driving it in the bush without a new fuel pump.

Was looking at Toyota parts site and notice that there are two fuel pumps, they both cost the same, but part # are different.

    Part Number: 7702004071
    Supersession(s): 77020-04071; 7702004070
    https://www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/p/...TION-WITH-PUMP--GAGE/47879293/7702004071.html

    Part Number: 7702004061
    Supersession(s): 77020-04061; 7702004060
    https://www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/p/...TION-WITH-PUMP--GAGE/47879292/7702004061.html

Both show as a FIT for my vehicle.

Any idea on which is better or if there is any difference at all?

I honestly don’t know why it says both fit?

But I do see the description is different.
My truck has a 5 speed Auto.
If I were to guess, it would be the first one.

I believe the frame code is on the door sticker.

The also both are 77020A - meaning the same part. Very confused. I would imagine one part if it would be replaced by other would have been retired now.

And "WHAT THIS FITS" is identical too.

    Beats me?

77020A is not the part number.
    It’s the diagram reference number.

    The part numbers are different.
The last 4 digits are different 4061 and 4071.

Look at your first post, you have the parts number listed.
And they are different on the website too.

Have you considered an aftermarket kit with the ability to have an external filter like the URD kit?
    https://www.urdusa.com/urd-2005-tacoma-v6-fuel-pumpfilter-upgrade-kit/

I’ve given it serious consideration if mine ever need to be replaced.

I don’t think it is exactly as “Drop in” as the OEM.
    A few small modifications.
But it has a lot of good reviews and some added benefits.

Here a link to see if it is something you might be interested in.

This is what I would do. Cheaper and improved over OEM is a no brainer IMO

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
I like it when I’m in the bush
If your pump is good now it will be good in the bush
Why replace a good working part
Why not replace everything as anything could go out at anytime
    Leave it alone
If you really want to replace it buy good quality with name brand part
I had to replace mine, bought from Rockauto, love them, pump I bought sucks, pun intended, it’s freakin noisy

I try to replace anything that shows signs of being at the end of life. With fuel pump that's a bit harder, as I can't really check if it's going bad until that one time when truck doesn't start anymore. I certainly don't want to be in that situation where I am couple hours from closest town, way farther from home and pump quits. All of these things have certain life in them, fuel pumps generally don't last forever.

Which pump did you get from Rockauto?

I have thought about this, however I am not quite sure if I want to mess too much with system and fuel lines that works just fine.

If I decide to go with a cheaper option, I would consider getting just the Denso pump, not whole assembly. Denso pump from Rockauto is about $110 USD / $140 CAD.

I ended up installing Denso pump at 310k km/192k miles and it has been running fine for last 7000km/4300miles, so hopefully it lasts at least few hundred thousand miles and probably not going to be my problem anymore.

One thing I can say for sure - I opted for taking off the truck bed and it seems far better option than dropping the tank.
