first off, really? what was wrong with using the doors? Anyways I was just wondering if someone around here has pulled out these speakers yet. If so what size are they? How difficult was it?

I was planning on installing new speakers all around with a 4 channel amp. I didn't have plans for a sub as space is limited and I need all 4 seats. As for the HU I might do that down the road. When I discovered the location of the rear speakers it had me wondering, should I just invest more money into a better pair for the front and fade it all to the front and forget about the rears? or maybe cut plastic and install 6.5's in the rear doors and just cut the wiring going to the headliner?

tips and info would be a appreciated, and I apologize if this information was answered else where, I tried a quick search and failed.

As far as i know the speakers in the headliner cannot be replaced, they are just used for filler in my opinion. A good set of speakers in the front hooked up to a amp is all you'll need. The cut outs for the speakers are still in the frame of the rear doors for the, but you have to modify your interior access door panels. If you decide to go the sub route, there are plenty of ideas on this site to mount the sub box in the middle of the back seats, so you can still have passengers.

I would cut the wires to the rear speakers and then build a box with 3 speaker cut outs

I was thinking of getting some separates for the front and possibly some 8" subs for the access doors. I know a box would be better for the subs, but space is limited in the AC and I would rather not have a box in between the 2 rear seats.

Cannot be replaced? That's just a bad judgment call by toyota. Thanks for the info and I think I will just go with new fronts and an amp for the time being. As for a sub I will still have to hum and ha. Someone mentioned there are some pretty shallow subs that fit under the passenger seat. Let you guys know what I find.

Subs in the doors? That's an idea, might have to really secure the door panels to prevent lots of vibration. But it could be alright, I'll look into it a bit.

I installed 1 10" Rockford Sub Box behind the passenger seat. See pic..http://www.screencast.com/t/uNiLMar4r In front of the sub is the massive Xover then in front of that is the Rockford Punch P300-2 300-Watt Stereo that drives the Sub. Under the Drivers seat is a RF Power T400-2 400 watt stereo amplifier that drives a set of RF T5652-S Power T5 6.5-Inch. These list for $1699 but I paid about $500 for the pair... the whole interior is done with GTMAT and the system as a whole sounds really good...

I recently replace my head unit on the Tacoma and decided not to use the head liner speakers for music. I wired the headliner speakers into my two way radio as an external speaker. Now I can run my stereo though my nice new speakers and have the two way radio audio come down from the sky... very cool
