Just picked up a Pioneer MVH-2400NEX and got some instructions with it. The instructions appeared to be for the early 2nd gens, and pretty much every video online is about early second gens too.

The unit says it comes with an external mic, is there any reason I couldn't use the mic already built into the headliner?
It also says that it can be used with the backup camera, does this mean the backup cam display in the mirror won't work anymore, and it'll only show up on the head unit?
The instructions also say to pop open those door panels and splice an extra set of wires off every speaker and run them up into the dash. Seems like overkill, whats wrong with using the harness thats already behind the dash?

Seems like a great unit, and the website had the impression that it was going to 'bolt right up' to my tacoma, but now it seems theres going to be some compatibility issues...

I got mine from crutchfield as well as all the wiring harness/adapters I needed and it seems to work great. Although the metra dash kit is a pain in the ass and it's nearly impossible to get it to sit in their right because of all of the wiring. I would go to crutchfield and ask them what you need for your 2013 and they should set you straight.

Do they think I'm an electrician?

The pioneer unit doesn't even FIT with the original toyota harness in there, how the F*** am I supposed to fit it with 6+ more harnesses shoved in there.

A great horse and a dog mating have more compatibility than this SH**.

There is plenty of space to the sides and behind the metal brace in the dash. You may have to pull out the whole radio surround that includes the vents to make it happen. I fit mine in with Maestro control box without issue.

So I'm assuming I need to splice every individual wire together?
And I still have no clue about using the existing Toyota microphone, or what cable it is.
OR where the instructions are for all this.
The document they gave me doesn't have any of this stuff on it.

If you want to integrate existing components you'll need a t harness to do so.

Where did you source the stereo from? Most reputable online retailers will provide reasonable instructions.

    Crutchfield.
Debating on putting the original radio back in now.
Doing and engine swap is easier than this.

Contact their tech support. They should be able to walk you through what you'll need to accomplish what you want.

But, yes, there will be some wiring needed.

Well they clarified some things. Original mic cannot be used.
Some harnesses aren't even used. That's real confusing, 10/10.
Other than that they are completely useless.

Go to Taco Tunes website. They had videos posted that showed complete install down to steering controls. I am not sure they have it for '12+ but I know they did for my '11. I actually bought the dash kit, wiring harness, steering control adapter from them. Followed directions and everything worked the first time...........I know I couldn't believe it either. :rofl:Oh and it was Pioneer HU too.

Is the dash kit they sell just the metra one or is it actually one of their own? I have the metra on a 2014 and it's extremely hard to get to fit in there. Just too many wires and not enough space.

I believe they offered metra and scosche at the time. I don't recall it has been 3-4 years since I did the install. I went scosche (spelling) and it takes some patience to get it all in to fit.

Had to contact tech support for the third time for them to finally send me wire diagrams.
Not surprisingly, everything makes sense now... that I have directions!
Its also "super" helpful to have like 5 extra adapters, just like a puzzle!

What wire is the OEM microphone? is it intergrated into one of the connects on toyota's harness or a separate wire all together? I really dont feel like ripping apart more trim and the headliner just to route the aftermarket mic to the best spot... where the OEM one already is.

I ran the aftermarket one though the dash and clipped where speedo is. Keep in mind I didn’t have hands free to begin with.

Yes, it seems almost every instruction is for trucks starting with nothing.

Take your time and be patient. There is ample room to fit all the harnesses back there. There is a member on here that sells an adapter that will allow you to reuse your own mic. I ran the aftermarket mic to the stock location, can't even tell. The wires are usually wire for wire. If you have steering controls, that is another part in itself. You do not need to run new speaker wires if all you're doing is a headunit swap. I've 3 separate hu installs in my truck already. The latest one was a pain but all worth it.

What did you have to take off to run the aftermakret mic up to the original location?
Do you know which wire behind the headunit is the mic?

Your pioneer mic plugs into the headunit. I ran it behind the radio, up through behind the gauge cluster, up the a pillar, along the headliner and down into the oem location. Just remove the oem mic and you can get creative mounting the mic. I used 3m tape and some tesa tape to secure it. Works just fine.

You should only need to remove the a-pillar. You can fish it up through the dash and then just tuck it in the edge of the headliner over to the mirror/overhead console.

And for others reading, the Scosche and Metra dash kits are garbage.

Best Kits makes a much nicer kit that looks and fits OEM.

No issue with the Scosche I have. I will say I was unaware of Best Kits when I did the install.

How is the Best Kit different?
